JERRY’S DEADJerry’s Dead pays tribute to the music of Jerry Garcia. Not exactly a Grateful Dead cover band, this quartet from Asheville, North Carolina, shines a spotlight specifically on songs lead by Jerry Garcia, who fronted the Grateful Dead in an alternating fashion with his bandmates. The “long strange list” of Garcia compositions and his own wide range of cover songs comes to life with Jerry’s Dead’s exciting interpretations from this iconic catalog. Further extending their tribute, Jerry’s Dead includes songs lead by Garcia in his many side projects throughout his accomplished career, including the Jerry Garcia Band and his work with mandolinist David Grisman. To date Jerry’s Dead has performed well over 150 different Garcia pieces, reinterpreting each in unique fashion to the delight of their growing fan base.
Jerry’s Dead features Tim Marsh on guitar and lead vocals and includes Dan Pederson on bass and vocals, Gus Vigo on keys and vocals, and Lee Kram on drums and vocals. Since their debut on June 21, 2021, at The Straightaway Cafe, Jerry’s Dead has brought Garcia’s music to many of Western Carolina’s well known breweries and music venues, including Highland Brewing Company, The Grey Eagle, Pisgah Brewing Company, The Asheville Music Hall, and The French Broad River Brewing Company, which hosts Jerry’s Dead every Thursday evening for two sets of free music. This weekly residency has become a real draw for the band, creating a space for vendors, dancers, and music lovers to commune regularly.
On occasion, Jerry’s Dead has hosted some very special guests, including Rob Barraco of The Dead, Dark Star Orchestra, Phil Lesh Quintet and Zen Tricksters; Lisa Mackey, also of D.S.O.; Julian Pinelli, who played fiddle with Peter Rowan, a bluegrass bandmate of Garcia in Old and in the Way; and Joe Marcinek of the Joe Marcinek Band and Dead Funk Summit, featuring George Porter Jr. of The Meters and Melvin Seals of the Jerry Garcia Band. After opening for Joe’ Marcinek’s Dead Funk Summit featuring Melvin Seals, it was Tim’s great honor to sit in with Melvin Seals, Joe Marcinek, and Tony Hall of Dumpstaphunk that night.

Michael Reno Harrell is an award winning songwriter, as well as a veteran storyteller and entertainer, and he’s from the South. One could compare Michael's performances to his granddaddy's pocket knife: well worn and familiar feeling, but razor sharp, and with a point. His original songs and stories have been described as “Appalachian grit and wit” but, as his writing shows, Michael’s awareness is much broader than the bounds of his boyhood home or even the Southern Experience. Between the approachable, feel-good nature of his music, and vivid story-telling that leaves you smiling, Michael creates an auditory experience that has to be witnessed in person.

Paper Wings
The charm and mystique of Nashville folk duo Paper Wings lies in the striking harmonic rapport which shifts and shimmers like a silken banner between kindred spirits Emily Mann and Wila Frank. The long-time friends and co-writers weave stories personal and universal into their songs with a craftsmanlike steadiness delivered in two part radiance furnished with clawbammer banjo, fiddle, and guitar. Both instrumental and lyrical mavens in their own right, together they’ve formed a unique sound that echoes upon the bedrock of American folk while twisting the ear forward in moments of modern revelation. On their forthcoming album, ‘Mountains on the Moon’, Frank and Mann drive down the dusty backroads of troubles and triumphs with the resilience of two friends who have been through it all together.
With roots in Oregon and California respectively, Frank and Mann were raised over the turning century in rural post-back-to-the-land communities of the west coast. Sharing an adoration for the outdoors and playing the fiddle, they became friends at music camps and festivals growing up. They made their first demos as a band as young adults in 2015 which they sold on home-printed discs at various breweries, farmers markets, and house concerts along the pacific coast. Eventually, they made their way to Nashville where they recorded their debut album Paper Wings in 2017 and sophomore album Clementine in 2019 and garnered streaming success with their heartfelt track “Troubled Soul”.
After a few years apart prompted by a worldwide pandemic and other projects taking their focus, the duo reunited in 2024 to release their third critically acclaimed album Listen to the World Spin. 2025 brought them to venues and festivals around the US and Europe, sharing bills with folk icons such as Emmylou Harris, Lucinda Williams, The Milk Carton Kids, and Watchhouse among others. They also found time to record their forthcoming album ‘Mountains on the Moon’ which is due to release on March 1st, 2026.

Abe Reid is a North Carolina musician and one of the modern keepers of the Piedmont roots music tradition. Born in Forsyth County and raised in Statesville, Reid began playing guitar at a young age, developing a deep connection to the region’s historic finger-style traditions. His musical education came directly from the source. As a young player, he spent time with legendary Carolina musicians Guitar Gabriel and Cootie Stark, learning not only guitar technique but also the storytelling and spirit behind traditional American music.
In the 1990s, Reid immersed himself in the life of a working musician, busking on the streets of New Orleans before returning to North Carolina’s music scene. He later helped form the roots band The Blue Rags, known for energetic performances and traditional sounds.
Reid gained international recognition when he won the International Blues Challenge in Memphis—becoming the first solo performer to win the competition.
Today, Abe Reid continues to perform, teach, and share the music of the American South, passing on knowledge learned from older musicians and decades on the road.
Mesmering folk duo Ordinary Elephant play an intimate Sunday afternoon concert by the French Broad River in Olivette. Kids are free! BYOB, BYOC (chair)
Folk duo Ordinary Elephant has spent the better part of the last decade on a never-ending tour thats earned married couple Crystal and Pete Damore widespread critical acclaim and made fans of luminaries like Tom Paxton and Mary Gauthier. In 2017, the pair took home the International Folk Music Award for Artist of the Year on the strength of their breakout album, Before I Go, and two years later, they returned with the similarly lauded Honest, which the Associated Press hailed as “one of the best Americana albums of the year.”
The band’s new stripped-down, self-titled collection is the purest distillation of their sound yet, showcasing the arresting power of the couple’s gorgeous harmonies and intricate fretwork. The songs are timeless, rooted in rich, character-driven storytelling, and the performances are similarly transportive, fueled by delicately intertwined banjo, guitar, and octave mandolin. Though the songs were born out of a period of deep uncertainty, the record itself is a work of profound self-assurance, one delivered by a duo whose personal and professional lives embody the limitless possibility of honest, organic collaboration. Press play on Ordinary Elephant and you’ll hear more than just a husband and wife; you’ll hear the sound of sincerity and commitment, of patience and gratitude, of learning to let go of expectation and revel in the simple beauty of the moment.

Cataloochee Ranch Barn Dance - With The Darren Nicholson Band
May 06 Wednesday
May 08 Friday
The setting is a walk-up apartment on Manhattan's West Side where, as the curtain rises, Frankie (a waitress) and Johnny (a short-order cook who works in the same restaurant) are discovered in bed. It is their first encounter, after having met several weeks ago on the job, and Frankie is hopeful that Johnny will now put on his clothes and depart, so she can
return to her usual routine of watching TV and eating ice cream. But Johnny, a compulsive talker (and romantic), has other ideas. He is convinced that he loves Frankie, a notion that she, at first, considers to be ridiculous. She has had more disappointments than delights in life, and he is the veteran of one broken marriage already. And neither of them is in the bloom of youth. Yet out of their sometimes touching, sometimes hilarious interplay the promise of a relationship beyond a "one-night stand" does begin to emerge and, as the lights dim, the two are back in bed again, but this time side-by-side, holding hands before the glowing television screen.
Frankie and Johnny at the Clair de Lune is produced by Multiverse Theatre Collective.
This production includes adult themes and language.
