Magic Tuber Stringband
Magic Tuber Stringband, hailing from North Carolina, probes the undercurrents of the landscapes around them. Highly skilled players and writers, the trio are leaders within the burgeoning avant composition world utilizing folk instrumentation. Their music appears to weave in and out of the fabric of their surroundings, reflecting their time spent living across the Southeast and studying its regional folk traditions and natural histories. Having performed recently at Big Ears, Hopscotch, Sound & Gravity (and many other places along the way) the group’s music resonates well beyond their regional roots. Their newest record, Heavy Water, will be out May 22 on the venerable Thrill Jockey Records. The ensemble continues to stretch the parameters of acoustic instrumental expression with masterful flourishes of dense, textural arrangements, subtle minimalist gestures and deft improvisation.
The Jazz Showcase is curated by esteemed pianist, scholar, and UNC Asheville music professor Dr. Bill Bares; this showcase series is dedicated to bringing the region’s finest jazz musicians and most compelling sounds to our stage in a true listening room experience.
Since 2012, JGBCB has filled a hole in the Grateful Dead scene by offering up spirited covers of classic songs pulled exclusively from the repertoire of the Jerry Garcia Band (JGB), Garcia's long-running side-project. JGBCB has played shows from Key West to Colorado, exciting audiences with performances of beloved Garcia tunes not found within the traditional Grateful Dead catalog.
It is with a deep love of Jerry Garcia's music and the music that he loved that the members of JGBCB approach this project. The band came together for a single show which led to a weekly residency in Athens, GA. The positive responses they received ultimately led JGBCB to tour around the country, giving fans all over a taste of the catalog of the Jerry Garcia Band. Count on hearing different material from night to night, consisting of JGB staples and deep cuts, and energetic improvisational jams!
The Jerry Garcia Band was as much a songwriting outlet for Garcia as it was a chance for him to cover the music he loved. Over the course of it's existence JGB paid tribute to artists such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, the Rolling Stones, the Wailers, Jimmy Cliff, J.J. Cale, and Ray Charles, as well as a number of Motown legends. The list goes on and on, recalling the names of rock, soul, and folk royalty.

Known for blending blues, rock, and classic influences, Quinn Sullivan pairs exceptional guitar skills with songwriting drawn from deep musical roots and his own life experiences.
Thirty years ago, RENT ignited Broadway like a lightning bolt — a raw, raucous, Pulitzer Prize–winning love letter that gave voice to the misfits, the rebels, the ones who loved without permission. Three decades later, its fire still burns.
In the East Village, a patchwork of outsiders fight to create and survive in a city that’s forgotten them. They turn struggle into art and fear into defiance. Through loss, love, and the noise of the city, they find strength together in the face of adversity.
Based on Puccini’s masterpiece, La Bohème, and fueled by its electric rock score and unflinching humanity, RENT is one of the most influential musicals of the 20th century, reimagined this season with the bold artistry of Flat Rock Playhouse. Join the revolution. No Day But Today.
