Flora Fauna
Flora Fauna is an Appalachian folk music project by the singer-songwriter sibling duo Emeline Scales and Charlie Scales, based out of Asheville, North Carolina. Deeply embedded in Appalachian bluegrass, porch music, and traditional Irish folk sounds with a folk / pop edge.

The Jazz Showcase is curated by esteemed pianist, scholar, and UNC Asheville music professor Dr. Bill Bares; this showcase series is dedicated to bringing the region’s finest jazz musicians and most compelling sounds to our stage in a true listening room experience.

RAINBOW GIRLS
The Rainbow Girls are an eclectic folk, Americana, and indie-rock trio from Northern California, featuring core members Erin Chapin, Caitlin Gowdey, and Vanessa May. Known for their soul-touching four-part harmonies and a “stomp-folk” sound, the multi-instrumentalists easily switch between guitars, ukulele, accordion, harmonica, and percussion during their energetic live shows.

The group was formed in 2010 at an underground open mic called “Bean Night” in Isla Vista, California. Living together in a dorm known as the “Rainbow House” near the University of California, Santa Barbara, the band initially started as a collective of female musicians before evolving into a trio. They honed their grassroots following by busking on the streets of Europe and playing at local farmers’ markets before eventually relocating to the countryside just north of the San Francisco Bay Area.

Known to describe themselves as “a gang of sweet angels punching you in the heart,” the Rainbow Girls prioritize community, resilience, and genuine audience connection. Their songwriting reflects the human experience, tackling themes of love, honest self-reflection, and social justice.

All throughout September, guests are invited to join the mountain’s naturalists as they count and celebrate the annual spectacle of fall raptor migration. Participants can observe the migration from viewing locations on Linville Peak (across the Mile High Swinging Bridge) and Half Moon Overlook (the first major overlook when entering the park). Included with admission.

The word craft-itarianism was coined by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez to name artistic projects that generate employment, raise awareness, or offer therapeutic support through craft. These programs provide a space where people affected by addiction, incarceration, and gun violence can find solidarity while learning a skill.

Craft-itarianism: Community Action Through Craft celebrates nonprofits and artists who believe in—and actively practice—the power of craft to support and empower individuals and communities.

This exhibition was curated by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez. Launched in 2017, the Curatorial Fellowship supports emerging curators exploring new ideas about craft with mentorship, professional development, and a $5,000 honorarium to realize an exhibition.
