Lauren Wasmund

We're excited to share our latest On The Way Up Podcast with you this week! It's hosted by Lauren Wasmund, our WNCW summer intern. She'll take us on a true Americana musical journey with songs from artists like the Fruit Bats from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, to the funkalicious sounds of Kev "Shinyribs" Russell from Austin Texas, followed by a DJ For The Day Segment featuring Ashevillian Julian Pinelli, a local North Carolina master fiddler and free style violinist.

"We have arrived at a milestone: this is the first time we have brought in another producer to not only research the music we’re sharing here, but also to choose that music," said WNCW's Joe Kendrick.  "A big thank you goes out to our intern Lauren Wasmund, whom you will get to hear from in our conversation on "DJ For A Day. This latest batch of new songs includes well known artists like Anders Osborne and Willie Nelson, as well as newcomers like Middle Kids and Jade Bird.

WNCW's new music podcast has lots of great new music featured here, with regional favorites from western NC like Tyler Ramsey and Rising Appalachia, and our segue of the show pairing songs written decades ago which have been covered many times, one of which is a brand new version from Charlie Hunter and Lucy Woodward.  Many of the songs on this podcast are also available on one of our Spotify playlists, titled “WNCW New Music.”
