  • We’re sad there won’t be a Christmas Jam in Asheville this year, but Warren and others have put together quite an impressive fundraiser in NYC for Helene relief on November 24th. Check out his latest studio album, which he’s put a lot of heart and soul into. Case in point, the song “Real, Real Love”: “This was a song that was started but never finished by Gregg Allman. He had showed it to me and we had talked about it, and I completed it after he died. I finished it in a way that’s reflective of the way Gregg wrote and then invited Derek Trucks to be part of the recording process, which really took it to the desired next level. I wanted to write it as if Gregg were singing it. Even in the way we approach the song as a band, and in the way I approach it as a singer, I had his presence in mind the entire time.” And there’s the song that sounds like it was written just for Election Day, “Day of Reckoning”.
  • The Red-Headed Stranger is no stranger to releasing records: this is his 153rd! He’s got a bakers’ dozen songs on here: a couple originals, one by his son Micah who produced this, and covers from the likes of Neil Young, Warren Zevon, and Flaming Lips. Tom Waits & Kathleen Brennan provided the lyrics that inspired the name of this album: “I’m the last leaf on the tree/the autumn took the rest/but they won’t take me/…I’ll be here through eternity/if they cut down this tree/I’ll show up in a song.”
  • It’s the 3rd album from this psychedelic Americana band that keeps that Cosmic American genre built by Gram Parsons, New Riders of the Purple Sage, the Grateful Dead, and others alive. The Nashville band is the songwriting/vocal duo of Jack Quiggins and Ryan Jennings. It’ll certainly fit right in with our Friday evening Cosmic American Music Show. “Given the chance, they will unite the hippies and the cowboys—the bikers and the stoners—with their groovy country songs.” –Margo Price
  • We’re excited to dig into this new one from Georgie Fuller and Will Turner and their band. We love how well they channel the sounds of 60’s acts from both the British Invasion and West Coast/Laurel Canyon explosion (think Fairport Convention meets The Mamas and the Papas); The Guardian writes that they “write and play music with that lick of madness that makes early Fleetwood Mac and peak Stones so thrilling”). Or take it from John Mayer, who says “I’ve been listening all week and I really love it!” Get to know this 2nd album of theirs, released on September 6th.
  • We’re starting to see some terrific fundraising projects for Helene relief efforts sprout up these last three weeks, and here’s the latest. This compilation aims to raise funds for victims, with 100% of the proceeds benefiting Beloved Asheville, a local nonprofit dedicated to providing relief and long-term support for the community. You may have heard of the similar 136-song “Cardinals at the Window” compilation of digital tracks; this one is exclusively made up of Western NC musicians. And while they’re still putting the finishing touches on the exact number and roster, the release date (via Bandcamp) is Friday, November 1st. A wide variety of genres are included on this, with some of the artists being Tyler Ramsey, Floating Action, Tin Roof Echo, Hearts Gone South, and Leftover Salmon (recorded last October at Asheville’s Salvage Station, which is now closed.) “Our community has always come together in times of crisis, and this compilation is a testament to that spirit,” said Chad Nance, one of the organizers of the project. “Music has a unique ability to heal and connect people, and we hope this album can provide some comfort and support to those impacted by the hurricane,” reflected Joe Hooten, another organizer of the project.
  • These two friends present a full-length cover of Stevie Nicks & Lindsey Buckingham’s eponymous LP, Buckingham Nicks – a rare, cult record that has yet to ever be released on digital platforms or CD, or reissued on vinyl since its 1973 debut. “The best reason to cover anyone is that little part of you that thinks you might do it better,” says Andrew Bird. “Madison is the most talented musician I’ve encountered. She has a restless ear, always looking for a new sound or harmonic twist. Her voice is goosebump-inducing, nimble and emotive at any volume. I just had to find the right project for us to go deep on and this is it.” "Andrew is one of my favorite artists alive and one of the deepest musical collaborators I've been lucky enough to have," adds Madison Cunningham. "This buried record found us in a place where we were trying to figure out what we could do together. Unfamiliar with it, but excited by its scarcity…It was unsurprising to me how it ended up becoming one of the most creatively satisfying record-making experiences I've had, but the unforeseen bonus was how relevant some of those lyrics would be to my own life. It became a lifeline for me, and I hope we've done it justice."
  • Jontavious Willis is on a mission to reinvigorate today’s music with the spirit of the past. He leverages his unique sound—a synthesis of his Georgia heritage and the rich history of the Blues—to get the world dancing again. With a bawdy, playful sense of humor, he channels the lively “rent parties” and “juke joints” of yesteryear, imparting the vitality of this music across communities today. If you hear a direct connection with Taj Mahal here, you’re not wrong. Taj dubbed Jontavious his “wonderboy” back in 2015, and had him open for him on tour in 2017. He’s told Jontavious "I declare before God, you knocked this one out the park, son!”

  • Nick Lowe’s music career goes back to 1967 when he started the band Brinsley Schwarz, followed by Rockpile in 1975, and his solo career a year later. “(What’s So Funny About) Peace, Love & Understanding”, “Cruel To Be Kind”, “So It Goes”… These are some of the hits penned by Lowe, in a career that’s included pub rock, power pop, and new wave. He’s also collaborated for a number of years with the band Los Straitjackets, and they back him up on each track of this fun new release.
  • We are so impressed with not only the size of this wonderful new compilation (136 tracks), but the speed with which it was assembled. A number of North Carolinians and others rallied to make this available in the days following Tropical Storm Helene’s horrendous destruction in our region. The collection of previously unreleased material includes performances by Drive By Truckers, Sylvan Esso, Watchhouse, Iron & Wine, REM, and Waxahatchee. 100% of proceeds to Helene relief and recovery in Western NC. Current recipients of funds are Community Foundation of Western North Carolina, Mutual Aid Disaster Relief, Rural Organizing and Resilience (via Holler Harm Reduction), and Poder Emma (via Colaborativa la Milpa).
