  • Charlotte native Joe Firstman and his band are back with another great collection of country rock in the spirit of the Allman Brothers Band and Grateful Dead, but definitely a modern, original affair. The first song, “Fallen Angels of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, asks a question that hangs in our heads daily at WNCW: “How many times did music save your soul?” The lyrical insights continue on songs like “What Is Wrong?”, “Sunshine”, “Love Is All It Takes”, and “Somos Iguales”.
  • It’s the Cambodian/American band’s 6th full-length album, and first one since 2015’s The Deepest Lake. It’s a more down-tempo affair compared to their previous releases, but the same level of psychedelic grooves and fascinating storytelling we fans have come to expect. A “Ting Mong”, by the way, is a decoy or mannequin in Khmer folklore, almost like a scarecrow, but used to fight away evil spirits and plagues.
  • It’s an album of celebration for Allison Russell, and as Pollstar describes, “The Returner, another powerful effort, also represents a next step in Russell’s career and life as she leaves her trauma in the past and steps forward in what she calls “fierce joy.”
  • His father co-founded the Allman Brothers Band, and young Duane spent the better part of ten years playing alongside him in Dickey Betts & Great Southern. He was also a touring member of Dawes, before co-founding the Allman Betts Band. Now comes his first solo effort, recorded on analog tape during a series of live-in-the-studio sessions at Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks’ Swamp Raga Studio in 2022. Trucks, Nicki Bluhm, and Marcus King join Duane and his band for ten songs that bridge the classic FM radio songs of the ABB glory days with some of today’s modern sounds.
  • Lend Me A Hand is a poignant yet high-spirited reflection on love, loss, and resilience, and emerged as SCI coped with such life-changing events as the sudden death of their close friend Jesse Aratow (a member of their management team for most of the band’s history). Known for their kaleidoscopic, energetic improv jams, they focus on the lyrical songs themselves on this one. String Cheese will celebrate their 30th anniversary as a band this upcoming New Year’s Eve!
  • It’s the 74th studio album for this 90-year-old Red-Headed Stranger who was just On the Road Again through Simpsonville and comes back to Asheville on October 18th. It’s also his 2nd album of this year!
  • This highly anticipated new one from Tyler is now out. Ahead of the release, his team debuted a breakthrough lead single, “In Your Love,” alongside an official music video, which debuted as YouTube’s #1 trending music video. Since then, the song has garnered over 6.1 million video views and 30 million on-demand streams. This 7-song album also features new renditions of Kris Kristofferson’s “Help Me Make It Through the Night” and S.G. Goodman’s “Space and Time”.
  • A key creative force behind the band Big Thief, singer/songwriter/guitarist Buck Meek now has his 3rd solo album out. His pedal steel guitarist Mat Davidson writes: "In the songs, love often assumes a natural form - crystal ball dew-drops, green rivers and grasses, tears bottled. Sometimes it becomes artificial - mood rings, earrings, a pair of jeans, motorcycles and spacecraft.
  • We lost the wonderful singer/songwriter Nanci Griffith in 2021, and now have this loving compilation that features the late John Prine, who recorded his version of “Love At The Five & Dime” with Kelsey Waldon shortly before his own passing in 2020. It’s also got Nanci Griffith covers from artists like Steve Earle, Iris DeMent, Emmylou Harris, and Shawn Colvin. Other highlights include Billy Strings and Molly Tuttle together on “Listen The Radio,” Lyle Lovett and Kathy Mattea taking on “Trouble In The Fields”, and The War And Treaty covering “From A Distance.” The new tribute is out on Rounder/Concord Records, which has also reissued Nanci’s first few albums.
  • “Down here, there's a lot going on and there's nothing going on at the same time," Cobb says of life in the south. This new one from Cobb does a good job capturing the laid-back, easy-going attitude of Southern living. The Georgia native recorded this at the legendary Capricorn Sound Studios in Macon, mostly with local musicians. “…I'm from Georgia, so I always look for the southern star. This album, the songs, the sounds… they're all a product of where I'm from, both musically and environmentally.
