Shavorã: Women of the Yawanawá Tribe

“Shavorã” means woman in the Yawanawá language. The Shavorã movement represents roots and wings, honoring ancestral traditions while creating space for transformation, equality, and empowerment.

Shavorã symbolizes the movement for equity, the uplifting of Indigenous women, and the visibility and inclusion of the LGBTQIAPN+ community within Indigenous spiritual traditions. Its mission is to transform both social and spiritual realities by creating a platform where feminine and LGBTQIAPN+ voices are heard, respected, and honored.

Inspired by Hushahu, the first Yawanawá woman to occupy a major spiritual leadership role within her people, Shavorã carries forward the vision of breaking patriarchal structures while preserving sacred ancestral wisdom. The union of Hukena and Nãwãēma represents this new path, one rooted in love, courage, healing, and cultural preservation.

We are deeply honored to receive Hukena, Nãwãēma, and Eriya as they hold the Shavorã altar with us.

The 30th Annual Upstate Shakespeare Festival in beautiful Falls Park in downtown Greenville, SC features A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM opening May 21st, 2026 and runs through June 21st, followed by THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN running July 9th – 25th. This is not your English teacher's Shakespeare! Bring your dog, your kids, your cousin's wife's best friend, or a bottle of wine and a picnic basket. Admission is free and open to the public, and donations are greatly appreciated. Performances are Thursdays - Sundays at 7pm and run approximately 90 minutes with no intermission, weather permitting.

Shlomo Franklin is an American singer/songwriter born on a small cow farm in upstate New York. Raised off the cultural grid, without music, television, or radio, his songs are strongly influenced by his cult-like religious upbringing. Shlomo released his debut album in 2019 which was produced by Grammy Award winner C Lanzbom and released a double album follow up from his now Nashville, TN home. His 3rd album, Land of Hopes & Schemes, is set to release in early summer 2026. Franklin has opened up for Jakob Dylan and The Wallflowers and shared festivals with The Nude Party and The Bones of JR Jones. His songs are just as comfortable in front of a crowd of two thousand as they are in a living room house concert. Shlomo sees himself as a bare bones troubadour and is stubbornly trendless.

This relaxed evening will feature live music by The ABSFest house band from 8-11pm. Between 8-9:30 we will have a sampling of performances by some of the amazing cast of this year's Asheville Burlesque & Sideshow Festival, now in our 17th year. Expect variety arts and bellydance, live music & high spirits!

This popular shutterbug weekend includes presentations from top nature photographers, hands-on field courses, a friendly contest and the rare opportunity to photograph the mountain’s spectacular scenery before and after regular business hours.

This popular weekend welcomes all levels of photographers, making it fun and engaging no matter what your skill level is – while better connecting participants with the wonders and unique ecology of Grandfather Mountain. This year, more than ever, we hope to not only help participants learn about photography, but to also inspire them to preserve the natural world. Activities begin Friday evening and conclude Sunday midday. Registration opens April 9 at 10 a.m. and closes June 4 at 12 p.m. or when the event sells out. Advance registration required.

You’re invited to the 4th annual Trails & Trains Festival this June 4-6, 2026! Mark your calendar and help us celebrate the Great Trails State by joining us in downtown Old Fort, North Carolina. Come celebrate with us the rich history of our Blue Ridge Mountain community by focusing on its pathways and connections through the town’s notable railroad and Pisgah National Forest history. Keynote Speaker John Kelly, live music from renowned bluegrass musicians, and exhibitor booths from outdoor recreation brands. Vendor Village and Food Trucks.

Asheville was chosen as the host city for the 2026 Carolinas Sketch Crawl organized by Urban Sketchers affiliate chapters in Asheville and Charlotte, NC, as well as Greenville, SC, and supported by an Urban Sketchers International Regional Events Grant… and they invite everyone to join in the fun!

Ticketed workshops and presentations for the three-day event are sold out, but sketchers of all ages and skill levels can still participate in a host of related free public events over the weekend of June 5-7.

The list of public Sketch Crawl events* can be found on the ‘Non Ticket Holder Events Schedule’ page of the carolinassketchcrawl.org website. Highlights include:

• Urban Sketchers Takeover Exhibit at RAD Rendezvous. An exhibit of sketches from the Asheville, Charlotte, and Greenville Urban Sketcher Chapters will be on view at RAD Rendevous (87 Roberts Street) from May 30th through June 14th.

• Sketching without Fear Workshop (Friday, 1:00 pm) a free workshop for beginner sketchers at Trackside Studios (375 Depot Street).

• Drink & Draw at Wedge Brewery at Foundation (Friday, 6:30-8:30pm at 5 Foundy Street). Sketchers are invited to gather here to sketch, hang out and pass around their sketchbooks to share their art with others.

•           Urban Sketching at Pack Square Park (Saturday, 9:15 am - 12:15 pm). Casual sketching encouraged at Pack Square Park and the Jackson building in downtown Asheville.
•           Urban Sketching in Downtown Asheville (Saturday, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm) Casual sketching encouraged at Wall Street and the Grove Arcade in downtown Asheville.
•           Drink & Draw at Hi-Wire Brewing (Saturday, 6:30-8:30 pm at 284 Lyman Street) - Sketchers will again gather to sketch, hang out and pass around their sketchbooks to share their art with others.

There are also plans for two additional free Community Outreach Workshops* including a drawing workshop for youth hosted by Trackside Studios and a sketching workshop hosted by the Asheville Sketchbook Club.
