Scottish clans, Celtic fans and festival lovers worldwide are gearing up for the 64th Annual Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, a four-day event celebrating Gaelic culture, heritage, music, athletics and dance. Some claim it’s one of the largest gathering of clans in the world and it begins in western North Carolina, Thursday, July 11 at 4:30pm.

EJ Jones, leader of the Piper Jones Band, will be Tom Fellenbaum's  special guest on "Celtic Winds"  Sunday, July 7, in the 1:00 hour.  Jones, a multi instrumentalist from Asheville, NC, who also constructs pipes, will discuss his love of Scottish music, and his position as Musical Director of the annual Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans at Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC.

Last week we were trying to get Elephant Sessions in Studio B before the award winning band played at MerleFest. There were issues with delayed flights and what not.... however, they came to the station on Sunday, April 28th and the wait was WELL worth it. We'll be sharing that performance with you Wednesday afternoon at 1pm. Tell your friends and check out the slideshow of images!

This award-winning trad-meets-rock 5-piece from the Scottish Highlands has a fresh, exciting take on keeping traditional Celtic music modern and new. Consider them one of the "traditional-plus" acts Doc Watson talked about for MerleFest; the all-instrumental band represents the Isles there this week for some dance sets on Saturday, before returning home for a number of great European festivals.
