Mandolin

We'll have LIVE music coming your way Saturday afternoon when Goin' Across The Mountain Host Todd Baldwin welcomes Carolina Divide to WNCW. The band members hail from both North Carolina and South Carolina, and as they say - "hence the name." They're known for their love of traditional, gospel and bluegrass tunes. We're excited to share a live session featuring these multitalented, local artists whose sound is unmistakenly deeply rooted in the south and in Appalachian music.

The mandolinist for Balsam Range released a wonderful solo release this year called "Fret a Spell" (get it?), and he stops by for a visit with Jasmin Melton before Balsam Range plays the Cherry Bounce Festival in Forest City, NC  Friday night. Darren's own band, which draws from a variety of styles, plays Bearwaters Brewing in Canton, NC on Saturday, as well as the Folkmoot Center in Waynesville, NC on Sunday the 23rd.

Live Friday, May 24th between 4 & 5pm: Tim O'Brien Band

May 18, 2019

We're excited to welcome back one of 'NCW's favorites, this time with his bluegrass band! After first hitting the scene fronting Colorado bluegrass band Hot Rize in the '80's, Tim O'Brien has proven to be one of the most versatile, talented, and prolific of roots music leaders, be it Celtic, old-time, or his own singer/songwriter originals. He's back to his bluegrass roots these days, and Tim & co. play the Grey Eagle on Sunday the 26th.

Goin' Across The Mountain Host Joe Greene welcomes members of Carolina Blue Saturday, December 15th in the One O'clock hour to talk about, and premiere, songs from the bluegrass band's new album, "I Hear Bluegrass Calling Me." They'll also talk about a very special event coming up next month - Carolina Blue is part of the lineup for our Annual LIVE Goin' Across The Mountain Show, January 18th 2019, at the Isothermal Community College Foundation Performing Arts Center, in Sp

The Primitive Quartet began in 1973, when two sets of brothers, Reagan and Larry Riddle and Furman and Norman Wilson, carried a guitar and mandolin with them on a fishing trip to Fontana Lake. The boys all sang at home and in church, but that night in Graham County was when they first sang in four-part harmony. After the fishing trip, with the encouragement of their parents and pastor, they began to sing together at area churches.

WNCW 88.7 FM and The Foundation  are thrilled to once again present “Goin’ Across the Mountain Live” in honor of WNCW’s acclaimed Saturday bluegrass show. Headlining this year will be the "Queen Of Bluegrass," Rhonda Vincent and the Rage.
