Tall Tall Trees is the pseudonym of Mike Savino, whose pioneering psychedelic banjo sound has marveled audiences both with his one-man-show loops and effects, and in collaborations with fellow multi-instrumentalist Kishi Bashi. He now calls the Asheville area home, and visits Studio B before his Saturday night show at Ambrose West. We feature his new release for New Tunes at 2 on Wednesday.

The trio of Isa Burke, Eleanor Buckland, and Mali Obomsawin is rooted in folk traditions honed together in Maine, and at Boston's Berklee School of Music before that. Their online bio sums up their mission as perpetating "the people’s practice of sharing their communities’ struggles through songs. The band exists in the tense space where tradition and revolution meet, from which their harmonies rise into the air to create new American music." They play The Grey Eagle in Asheville on Wednesday, then Bristol, VA on Thursday.

The wonderfully innovative world jazz trio out of Asheville (from left: River Guergarian, Chris Rosser, and Eliot Wadopian) has a new album called "Pursuit", and a release show this Friday at Isis Music Hall in West Asheville. Like their previous works, it explores a variety of musical cultures, and the universal language of sound they share in common.
