Our great friend, multi-instrumentalist, singer, storyteller and TV host David Holt returned to WNCW earlier this month to talk about his new, third season of his television series that highlights great roots music from our region.

On our Bluegrass voyage this weekend, we celebrate the birthdays of Larry Sparks, Shawn Lane, the late Charles Sawtelle of Hot Rize, Steve Gulley and others. We'll also feature the new Earls of Leicester Live CD from the Country Music Hall Of Fame! Join Hosts Joe Greene and Todd Baldwin every Saturday from 11am 'til 7pm for Goin' Across The Mountain, on your listener-supported, grassroots radio station WNCW.

Host Joe Greene brings us music from the roots up with tunes from Jerry Douglas, Love Canon, Circus No.9 and more. In this new WNCW program, we explore the progressive side of music, spotlighting artists that reach beyond traditional Bluegrass music. Plus, we get into songs and sounds from the younger generation of pickers adding their feelings and flavor to our roots music traditions. Hope you can take a stroll in The Tall Grass with us, Sunday evenings at 6pm.

We have a show filled with great Bluegrass music as we celebrate birthdays for Carl Story, Jerry Douglas, Rob Ickes, Tom T. AND Dixie Hall and Woody Platt. Plus we'll feature songs of remembrance celebrating Memorial Day for this holiday weekend. Climb aboard the train! GATM airs on Saturdays with hosts Joe Greene and Todd Baldwin - 11am 'til 7pm.

In this episode, we run the gamut from artists who are brand new on the scene to longstanding, award-winning favorites. This batch of music tends towards the jazzy, bluesy and poppy side of WNCW’s music mix, and begins with an artist who is returning to an inspiration some 40 years on, now bringing elements he never yet dared to his sound. We’ll feature a Segue Of The Week matching a new artist from Australia with a band that has evoked America’s Southwest for decades, and a lot more.

Recap by Joe Kendrick -- Wilkesboro is only some 90 miles away from where I live, but going there for MerleFest always seems to transport me across much more than that short space and time. Winding my way through the rolling hills up highway 18 in late April has a uniquely soothing effect, and shifts my thoughts through the gears of choruses and solos, and faces and conversations of all the festivals I’ve attended.
