In this episode, you will hear the latest from New Zealand’s Tami Neilson, Canada’s Corb Lund, we will get to some wonderfully twisted roots music from artists like Danny Barnes and Sierra Hull, and turn it up a notch with new rock from Best Coast, Maya De Vitry and Greg Dulli. We also welcome Joni Deutsch to our segment “DJ For A Day”, as we have a conversation about how Joni and her colleagues at WFAE in Charlotte are still making radio happen amidst all the upheaval from the coronavirus. All that and more, plus a Segue Of The Show from De La Soul’s watershed debut.

This Charlotte band started off as a solo project of singer/guitarist and SC native Jeremy Davis, but their sound has morphed to the great fiddle/mandolin/bass lineup they have today. And their indie-rock roots still show with a new cover of My Morning Jacket's "Golden". We welcome them back to Studio B in advance of their Friday the 13th show at Pisgah Brewing in Black Mountain.

This just in from LIVE NATION:

These two Georgia-based singer/songwriter/guitarists are on a "Kickin' & Singin'" tour together, for shows in Asheville Friday and Charlotte Saturday. We can't disagree with what's said about Michelle: "raucous and jubilant - somewhere between Lucinda Williams and Shelby Lynne comes Malone alternating between soulful ballads and rowdy, riffy blasters."- ROLLING STONE

Experience the great Darrell Scott if you haven't already! He returns to Studio B before performing Friday in Asheville and Saturday in Charlotte.

Richard Shindell
Paolo Brillo

He was one of the premiere singer/songwriters during that genre's prolific era of the '90's (including great collaborations like Cry Cry Cry with Dar Williams and Lucy Kaplansky), and he's continued to release wonderful albums since then, from his homes in both New York and Argentina. He's back in the area for a show in West Asheville on Thursday night, and in Charlotte on Sunday March 3rd.

Martin Anderson caught up with one of WNCW's favorite bands -- their album "Free Yourself Up" ranked #17 in our Top 100 of 2018 -- in Charlotte recently. Tune in for a chat with Rachael, Bridget, Mike, McDuck, and Akie, and three brand new songs they recorded on stage there during a lil' WNCW soundcheck party!

Seth Walker
Zack Smith

We've enjoyed following Seth Walker's Americana/blues career these past 15 years, and we really like the direction he's taken on this new album Are You Open? He plays The Rooster's Wife in Aberdeen on Valentine's Day (awwww) and Free Range Brewing in Charlotte on Friday.

More to the Story: Charlotte's Climate Change Plan

Jan 18, 2019
Charlotte Skyscrapers

Charlotte has an ambitious goal.  A goal aiming for a zero-carbon city for fleet and buildings, a strategic action plan, by 2030.  The Queen City is receiving technical support and resources towards Climate Change, after making a small list of cities across the nation to do so.  During this More To The Story from January 9, 2019- Charlotte Observer Government and Politics Reporter- Ely Portillo is guest.  An update on Interstate 77 toll lanes is also discussed.

WFAE Public Radio Charlotte's Steve Harrison (Reporter) is following the current voter fraud story that involves North Carolina's Ninth Congressional District - Republican Mark Harris and Democrat Dan McCready.  It seems like with every new day comes a new addition to this incredible and alarming story.  The biggest issue in this story is what took place in Bladen County.  Harrison provides everything he knew at the time of Dec. 12, 2018 when this edition of More To The Story aired.

Brent Baxter/Giulia De Gregori

Singer/songwriter Vanessa Peters seems to be really hitting her stride with a new album called Foxhole Prayers. "I'm a literature geek at heart and for years I've wanted to do an album somehow influenced by The Great Gatsby, but the idea seemed much to nerdy and abstract. But after I re-read it last year, it dawned on me that we were literally reliving the Gatsby years."  She plays Wednesday in Charlotte, and Thursday in Knoxville (and Italy a week later!)

The four time Grammy Award winning Jason Isbell will be playing for audiences in The Queen City tonight! The multitalented musician and his band also won mulitple awards, a few weeks ago, at AmericanaFest 2018. American Aquarium, a hugely popular, folk-infused, Southern rock-and-roll band from Raleigh, NC will open for Isbell. Happy second day of fall!
