  • June 27th sees the release of this release from the innovative fiddle player for the Infamous Stringdusters. We thought we’d debut it on May 22nd in anticipation of our live interview with the Stringdusters, Thursday around 4pm from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Mill Spring where they play that evening. This is Garrett’s 8th studio album but his first release with the Stringdusters’ Americana Vibes Record label. Garrett’s collaborators on the record included banjo player Ryan Cavanagh, guitarist Chris Luquette, singer Lindsay, songwriting partner Josh Shilling, fiddle players Luke Bulla and Casey Driessen, bassist Travis Anderson, and Stringdusters colleague Andy Hall on Resophonic guitar/dobro. Garrett recorded the album in a one-room studio outside of Fort Collins, CO, at the foothills of the mountains, before adding his parts at his own Storm Mountain home studio, where he lives off the grid.
  • This 9th studio album from Austin icon Shinyribs - is a fitting return to the roots. Reunited with the artist's original record label, Nine Mile Records, Leaving Time sets aside the Soul horns and backup singers that have been a staple of the big Shinyribs band, in favor of a more stripped-down approach to this collection of songs. Fans of Kev Russell’s first couple Shinyribs albums, and his previous band The Gourds, might hear a bit of a return to that era with these arrangements.
  • It’s old-time string-band music with a rowdy country music twist with this fun quartet. They formed in 2009 as a pickup band for a square dance, and are made up of Kevin Martin on the fiddle, Gabriel Kelley on guitar, Daniel Binkley on banjo, and Pickle on washtub and standup bass, with special guests Sierra Ferrell and Margo Price. In addition to original tunes here, you’ll find covers of The Band, Mountain, and Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. Hogslop has shared stages with the likes of the Avett Brothers, Lucas Nelson, Del McCoury, Charlie Louvin, Punch Brothers, The Infamous Stringdusters, and Dom Flemons.
  • Andrew Marlin & Emily Frantz started performing together in 2009 in coffee shops and restaurants of Chapel Hill and other NC towns under the name Mandolin Orange. They now have their 2nd album under the Watchhouse name, and an extensive tour of North America that comes back to us over Labor Day weekend for the Earl Scruggs Music Festival. They are certainly a grassroots success story that’s been driven by Marlin’s poignant songwriting, that has earned them a reputation for creating music that “redefines roots music for a younger generation” (Washington Post), with songs that touch on the unknowable mysteries, existential heartbreak, and communal joys of modern life.
  • The Boulder-formed “Polyethnic-Cajun-Slamgrass” band celebrates their 35th anniversary with this new album recorded at Compass Sound Studio in Nashville, with guests including Del McCoury, Jason Carter, Sam Bush, and Jeff Coffin. As the album title attests, these guys know how to have a good time, and you can hear it on this great new collection of Salmon tunes!
  • Rose continues on a rather autobiographical direction with these songs, and this one came at a pivotal time for her: she was exhausted and even considered leaving music before eventually getting to work on it. She quit drinking and sought therapy, as snippets of these songs started coming together. She considered different genres, ranging from electro-pop to a more subdued acoustic path, but as you’ll hear here, she decided on a rather eclectic range of an indie-rock sound.
  • He’s 92, and this is his 77th solo album… Celebrate another wonderful new one from The Red-Headed Stranger! Willie has been mighty prolific lately, with help from producer Buddy Cannon, a few family members, and a whole world of Willie fans. He’s released a few albums over the years that were entirely the works of other songwriters: Lefty Frisell, Kris Kristofferson, and Harlan Howard. He’s done so again now, with fellow Texan Rodney Crowell.
  • Sarah Jarosz, Aoife O’Donovan, and Sara Watkins are back with their first album since their breakout debut seven years ago. Produced by Josh Kaufman (of another trio, Bonny Light Horseman), the close-knit bond of these three musicians can be heard in their tight harmonies and exquisite acoustic performance. The new songs here address reaching into the past, navigating a chaotic present, and bravely moving forward into the unknown.
  • Justin Osborne has been performing as ‘Susto’ since 2013, when he formed a collective of fellow musicians and artists in coastal Charleston, South Carolina. Now he’s fused their alt rock with the Appalachian sounds of the Holler Choir with this latest venture, by joining with Americana vocalist Clint Roberts, clawhammer banjoist Helena Rose, and upright bassist Joey Brown (now Holler Choir) among others. Lightning struck as an immediate connection and artistic chemistry captured a new sound and visualization that unfolds on Susto Stringband’s debut release from New West Records, simply titled "Susto Stringband: Volume 1." We enjoyed hosting them in Studio B for a great live session at the end of March.
  • Get to know one of the latest great soul releases, fronted by Tomar Williams. Tomar grew up gigging around Austin while in high school in the 1980s, and this is his 3rd album. Supporting him here are James Rodman (Wurlitzer electric piano and Hammond organ), Chris Alexander (bass) and Paul Kresowik (drums), and Jorion Dawson (saxophone), plus Angela Miller and Lauren Cervantes provide shimmering harmonies.
