  • The 86-year-old living legend of Chicago blues sounds just as strong as ever in these powerful performances.
  • The official “Fat Tuesday” is not until next February, but since the day after tomorrow could be considered “Fat Thursday”, let’s add a Mardi Gras groove to today’s mix with this album of Cajun, Blues, and New Orleans R&B. It’s their 2nd collaboration following 2016’s “Cajun Fandango”. Featuring special guests Marcia Ball, Jon Cleary, Anthony Paule, John R Burr, and others.
  • We celebrate “Thanksgiving Eve” with someone whom we’re especially grateful to have in our lives still: Willie! This 2-CD/1-DVD release, also available digitally, has just been released. A 2-LP 12″ vinyl pressing, it will also be available exclusively at independent record stores as part of Record Store Day’s Black Friday event on November 25. Willie’s ensemble that night in Tokyo (February 23, 1984) featured his sister Bobbie Nelson on piano, Paul English on drums, Grady Martin on guitar, Jody Payne on vocals and guitar, Bee Spears on bass and Mickey Raphael on harmonica.
  • We ease into the Holiday season with this beautiful all-instrumental collection of Christmas songs featuring harmonica and vibraphone great Hendrik Meurkens, recorded earlier this year. The pianist and arranger is Steve Rudolph, with John Shannon on guitar, Tony Depaolis on bass, and Reid Hoyson on drums.
  • Considering he’d all but sworn off recording and touring again following the great success of his first couple of albums, one could assume he released this one almost reluctantly – perhaps just to quiet all of us Fullbright fans who keep bugging him to release more.
  • Bluegrass fiddler, singer, and bandleader Becky Buller has her first all-Christmas album, with a wonderful mix of originals and classic carols. Her guest list on this includes The Fairfield Four, Vince Gill, Rhonda Vincent, Sharon White, Tim O’Brien, Sierra Hull, Dan Tyminski, Ricky Skaggs, Ron Block and more. The Becky Buller Band performs live at the Appalachian Theatre Wednesday evening, and live in Studio B here on Thursday at 1pm!
  • The band did an epic 20-show run at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco back in 1997, and this month sees the release of a huge audio archive of highlights. Classic Heartbreaker rockers, moving acoustic cuts with just Tom and a mate or two, and surprising covers from the likes of The Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Bo Diddley, JJ Cale, The Byrds & more on this big collection.
  • He’s achieved an incredible surge of popularity and success in the bluegrass, jamband, and live music world these past few years, and he’d probably be the first to tell you he owes a lot of it to his childhood exposure to pickin’, courtesy of his dad Terry Barber. So he decided to record a duet album with him! Also present is an all-star band including bassist Mike Bub, mandolinist Ron McCoury, banjo player Rob McCoury and fiddler Michael Cleveland as well as special guest appearances by Jerry Douglas, Jason Carter and Strings’ mother, Debra Barber.
  • Melissa Carper has previously gotten airplay here with groups like Sad Daddy, The Carper Family and The Buffalo Gals Band. We fell in absolute love with her 2021 album Daddy’s Country Gold, and this follow-up from the singer/songwriter/bassist does not disappoint. Also featured on the album are Dennis Crouch on bass, Chris Scruggs on guitar and console steel, Billy Contreras on fiddle, Sierra Ferrell and Larry Marrs on harmony vocals, John Palmer on keys, and Matty Meyer on drums. Crouch and Andrija Tokic, both of The Time Jumpers, produced this. We thoroughly enjoyed her live session in Studio B last Wednesday: check it out on WNCW’s Facebook page.
