The word craft-itarianism was coined by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez to name artistic projects that generate employment, raise awareness, or offer therapeutic support through craft. These programs provide a space where people affected by addiction, incarceration, and gun violence can find solidarity while learning a skill.

Craft-itarianism: Community Action Through Craft celebrates nonprofits and artists who believe in—and actively practice—the power of craft to support and empower individuals and communities.

This exhibition was curated by 2026 Center for Craft Curatorial Fellow Alyssa Velazquez. Launched in 2017, the Curatorial Fellowship supports emerging curators exploring new ideas about craft with mentorship, professional development, and a $5,000 honorarium to realize an exhibition.

See the Fine Art That Ignites the Floral Designs

Before the flowers arrive, immerse yourself in the fine art that serves as the heartbeat of the 20th Annual Art in Bloom. From June 1–17 (10 am – 5 pm), our gallery features a curated collection of works from WNC’s top talent. This exhibit is the essential first chapter of the series, allowing you to see the specific paintings and sculptures that our floral designers will soon interpret into living arrangements.

Resources For Resilience is an Asheville-based nonprofit organization sharing practical tools and research-based resources for individuals, teams, and communities to manage stress and prevent burnout.

In the wake of Hurricane Helene, we are offering FREE educational programming, workshops, and trainings.

Ekphrasis is the practice of writing about, in response to, or to expand on a piece of visual art. It’s a fun way to generate ideas and break through block. In this workshop we’ll also use music, film, photography, and craft as inspiration.

Challenge yourself while drinking beer! Teams of up to 6 can compete for fantastic prizes. Join us in the taproom every Wednesday from 7-9. Bring a phone!

Each event showcases six handpicked artists, performing three-song sets in a quiet, seated environment where the music takes center stage. To add a sense of surprise and discovery, the lineup is revealed only when the show begins. Running from 7–9 PM, these early shows create the perfect evening for music lovers who value live performances and a good night’s rest. With over 100 shows hosted and extraordinary artists from around the globe gracing our stage, Golden Folk Sessions is entering an exciting new chapter. Under a new name and with a new home at The Grey Eagle—one of the Southeast’s most iconic venues—we’re thrilled to continue fostering community through music. The 30th Annual Upstate Shakespeare Festival in beautiful Falls Park in downtown Greenville, SC features A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM opening May 21st, 2026 and runs through June 21st, followed by THE TWO NOBLE KINSMEN running July 9th – 25th. This is not your English teacher's Shakespeare! Bring your dog, your kids, your cousin's wife's best friend, or a bottle of wine and a picnic basket. Admission is free and open to the public, and donations are greatly appreciated. Performances are Thursdays - Sundays at 7pm and run approximately 90 minutes with no intermission, weather permitting.

Asheville Longest Running stand up comedy Open mic, The Disclaimer Stand Up lounge now At Third Room.
Disclaimer Comedy has been producing comedy shows in Asheville for over a decade. Bringing in the likes of Rory Scovel, Hannibal Burress, Tom Segura, and more. But, The Disclaimer's Pride and Joy has always been "The Disclaimer Stand Up Lounge Comedy Open-Mic". A sign up, go up open mic. With a wild roster of Asheville comics, Traveling comics, FIRST TIMERS, comics on Netflix, Comedy Central, Dry Bar, Don't tell, to comics who have probably been on COPS a few times. It's a real grab bag variety show, and home to a lot of talented creators in the southeast.
