The time has come for the little tradition that we LOVE! Our beloved miniatures show is back!
Every February, we dedicate the gallery to showcasing small but mighty works of art. The perfect size to gift to your sweetie (Valentine’s Day is right around the corner!) and just the right price point for first-time collectors to begin adorning their walls with spirited original artwork! Each year, we ask our folk art family to create these little masterpieces no larger than 7x9, but never restrict their subject matter or imagination. This annual tradition gives them all a chance to bring life to scraps of material or leftover lumps of clay and tell big stories on a smaller scale.
The 22nd Annual Miniatures Show features new work from Doug Frati, Minnie Adkins, Michael Banks, Shawn Ireland, Carl Block, Ellen Langford, Tim Whitten, Kent Ambler, Wayne Hewell, Sonya Clemons, Stacy Lambert, Liz Sullivan, Church Goin’ Mule, Jack Klippel, John Sperry, and more!
Renowned whittler Minnie Adkins has produced miniature versions of her famous critter carvings especially for this year’s show. The matriarch of Kentucky woodcarvers, Minnie is such a joy to talk with and funnier & wittier at 91 than most of us might ever hope to be! Unpacking her creations is something we always look forward to because they simply never fail to charm.
Many fans of the gallery already know the work of woodblock printer Kent Ambler, but even long-time followers may not be aware of the art he creates from his retired woodblocks. Once a series is finished being printed, Kent will cut his blocks into smaller pieces and rearrange them into a mosaic of mesmerizing pattern & color. From time to time, he will devote himself to recycling his blocks to create these assemblages, but not often, and certainly not at the small size he has produced for this year’s collection.
The 22nd Annual Miniatures Show debuts on our website at 11AM on Wednesday February 4th, and you will have a full hour to preview the entire show before phone sales begin at 12PM sharp!
And don’t forget! You’re invited to join us in celebrating this cherished show on Friday February 6th from 5-8PM. At this special evening reception, guests will be able to purchase locally-crafted dried flower bouquets, commission an on-demand typewriter poem from Eddie Cabbage, and enjoy live music from Aaron Kruse all while experiencing our beloved annual Miniatures Show! The perfect pre-Valentine’s Day date night for you and your sweetie!
