The 2013 NPR Music Jazz Critics Poll
We asked 137 jazz journalists to pick their favorite albums that came out this year. Out of over 700 nominees, here are their collective top 50 picks, along with top finishers in the Latin jazz, vocal, debut and reissue categories.
Thursday @ 8pm: Buddy Guy – The Blues Don’t Lie
The 86-year-old living legend of Chicago blues sounds just as strong as ever in these powerful performances.
Steep Canyon Rangers Live Wednesday, January 16th between 11am & Noon
Congrats to the Rangers for ranking #3 in WNCW's Top 100 of 2018! (in good company with the likes of John Prine and Jason Isbell.) And all of the great…
Thursday Night the 30th between 8pm & Midnight: PATTY GRIFFIN - American Kid
We wrap up May with what has to be considered one of the best releases of the month, and likely a Top 10 contender for WNCW's 2013 list. American Kid is…

Tuesday 8/23: Jeff Coffin – Between Dreaming And Joy
The saxophonist/composer for Bela Fleck & the Flecktones, Dave Matthews Band, and his own Mu’Tet has 8 bassists, 6 drummers, 5 guitarists, and 4 keyboardists here, not to mention Middle Eastern frame drums, a Hungarian tarogato, an African ngoni, soda bottles, and an ice cream truck. (Perhaps there’s a kitchen sink somewhere, too?) As you might expect, this transcends any one genre or two. Fellow musicians include Felix Pastorius, Chris Wood, Robben Ford, and Marcus King. So many reasons why we at WNCW love this!

Thursday @ 8pm: Whitehorse – I’m Not Crying, You’re Crying
Ontario’s Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet have pivoted from a blues and rock sound to their love of classic country on this one. They chose the universality and simplicity of the genre’s storytelling to address the challenges that the pandemic of these past couple years has brought on, like heartbreak and loyalty. Luke and Melissa have picked up five consecutive JUNO Award nominations in three different genre categories; there’s no reason why this great one won’t net them #6!
