Thursday 6/11: Future Birds – Far Out Country
This band formed 15 years ago, forging a mix that often sparks our interest here at WNCW: cosmic Americana and psychedelic country-rock. Their new album lives up to its name.

Monday 6/12: Dallas Burrow -- Blood Brothers
New Braunfels, Texas native Dallas Burrow has a lot of great stories, particularly about music legends like Townes Van Zandt. One of his favorite stories to tell is about a night in Nashville in the early 70s, when Burrow’s father, Mike Burrow, was hosting Richard Dobson, John Lomax III, and Van Zandt at a pub he ran with his siblings on Elliston Place near the old Exit/In. After a late night shutting down the bar, the foursome hit an after party, where Van Zandt insisted they all become blood brothers to ensure they’d be forever cosmically linked. Everyone agreed, and perhaps through some mystical, intangible power that often propels so much music, Van Zandt’s style has been transfused into Burrow more than any other artist. And now that you know a bit of this story, you know a lot about the feel of these great new songs from Dallas – all but one of which were written by him (including co-writes with Charley Crockett and Jonathan Tyler). This one, like all of this week’s New Tunes at 2 albums, will be released on June 16th.
Tuesday 1/6: Tyler Ramsey & Carl Broemel – Celestun
Having been friends and occasional touring partners for well over a decade, Asheville-based singer-songwriter-guitarist Tyler Ramsey and My Morning Jacket guitarist Carl Broemel have now made their full-length recorded debut with Celestun (out Jan. 15th). It is predominantly filled with lush, mostly acoustic instrumentals, although they each sing a song or two here as well.
Monday 6/24: The Decemberists – As It Ever Was, So It Will Be Again
It’s the first album of new material in six years for Colin Meloy and his band of fellow Oregonians. To quote Stereogum, it “feels like a career summary of everything the Decemberists are and have been, juxtaposing stripped-down folk and buoyant pop songs against lengthy monoliths on a 68-minute double album that ends with a 20-minute retelling of the legend of Joan of Arc.”
Thursday 8/6: Michigander – Over Before You Know It
Michigander is the indie-rock DIY solo project of Jason Singer, from Kalamazoo. “We spend so much of our lives trying to build something that we never have the time to enjoy. That’s the lesson I’ve learned over the past year,” says Singer. “Tell people you love them. Take care of yourself. Fight for the good. That's what this album stands for.”

Tuesday 6/30: Andrew Sa – American Rough
Everyone’s got stories of how they first got turned on to music as a kid, but young Andrew Sa, whose dad had been a touring musician in a previous life chapter and whose mom started up a karaoke company, found himself singing on stage at age 10. “For some reason I always picked the sad Patsy Cline songs,” an early sign of Sa’s penchant for aching country ballads that would eventually find its way onto American Rough, Sa’s debut album out now via Bloodshot Records. His musical interests shifted from country to jazz as he became enthralled with the voices of Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Billie Holiday, and Nat King Cole – influences that continue to ring through his musicianship today. He then fell in love with musicians like Rufus Wainwright, k.d. lang, and Elton John, and after time spent growing up in San Francisco and Portland, Oregon, he found himself settled in the music scene of Chicago… though his new album was recorded in NC with Polk County native H.C. McEntire as producer. We hope you caught his live session in here in Studio B on June 3rd!
