FROM THE ARTIST Scott Dergins
In the last year, Scott has been sketching and painting nearly every day for fun and relaxation in the evening. This has created a new way of sharing and also selling his creations.Scott develops rough sketches on illustration board using acrylic paint and highlighting the artwork with pen and ink. Inspiration comes from the study of abstract artists, especially Calder, Miro, Picasso and Mondrian and the love of Mid Century Modern architectural style!Scott is a Graduate of Kendall College of Art & Design, professional furniture designer, Morganton, Nc.There are showings and sales at The Burke Arts Council and Vintage Blue in Hickory. The attached are a few images of Scott's work. All are original, framed and matted.

The Friends of Haywood County Public Library welcome local author Terry Roberts, the author of five novels, including A Short Time to Stay Here, That Bright Land, and The Sky Club. He is a native of the mountains of Western North Carolina—born and bred. His ancestors include six generations of mountain farmers, as well as the bootleggers and preachers who appear in his novels.
He has won the Sir Walter Raleigh Award for fiction, a Willie Morris Prize for Southern Fiction, Thomas Wolfe Literary Award and a James Still Award for writing about the Appalachian South. He is also the director of the National Paideia Center, an organization dedicated to “teaching children critical thinking skills and how to speak for themselves.”
The evening will start at 5:30 with drinks and heavy appetizers and time to socialize and browse the silent auction items. The author will speak at about 6:30. The event will be held at the Wells Event Center, off of Main St in Waynesville.

The Southern Highland Craft Guild invites visitors to experience daily craft demonstrations at the Folk Art Centerfrom March through December. Every day from 10am-4pm, two artists of differing media will explain anddemonstrate their craft with informative materials displayed at their booth. These free educational events are open to the public.

A gallery talk presented by The Johnson Collection, given by curator Landon Bryant discussing the exhibition: Draped in Time. A native of Laurel, Mississippi, Landon Bryant with his clever and insightful conversations, was profiled by The New York Times as a southern voice with a “soft drawl that cloaks a devilishly sly sense of humor, [and he] has become a fixture on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube with his explanation and exploration of what it means to be Southern.” During his gallery talk, he will discuss the inspiration, curation process, and how Spanish moss performs multifarious roles as a recurrent backdrop for the many diverse and interconnected stories that the South has to tell.
