A New Readers Theatre Program Launches in the Swannanoa Valley—Join the Encore Players Onstage!

"The Black Mountain Center for the Arts is excited to launch the Encore Players, a brand-new senior readers theatre program, and we’re looking for performers for our first production: Noël Coward’s classic comedy Blithe Spirit.

Readers theatre brings stories to life through voice and performance—no memorization required. Whether you’re a seasoned actor or brand new to the stage, this low-pressure, welcoming program is a great way to explore character, connect with others, and share the joy of storytelling.

About the Play

When novelist Charles Condomine hosts a séance for research, he accidentally summons the ghost of his first wife—causing hilarious chaos with his very alive second wife. Witty, supernatural, and full of fun, Blithe Spirit is a crowd favorite.

Format: Relaxed cold readings from the script

Who: All experience levels welcome; ages and genders flexible
