Mica Gallery Holds Fundraiser for Local Animal Shelter

The Luck of the Pups is Mica Gallery’s 2025 fundraiser for Mitchell County Animal Rescue (MCAR). The sale will run from March 7-April 30. The Luck of the Pups sale will feature works donated by Mica artists and the estate of Bobby Kadis. 75% of the sale of the donated works will be contributed to MCAR. The opening reception is Friday, March 7, 5:00-7:00 pm. A $10 per person suggested donation for MCAR will be collected at the door on the night of the reception. Refreshments at the opening are being hosted by Speckled Dog Pottery. MCAR's executive director Amber Lowrey spoke about hurricane’s effect on their work: "Before the storm we moved all of the animals out of the shelter so that we would have room for displaced and stray animals. We always use social media to help locate lost and found pets, but we amped up that work after Helene. So many pets were missing or found, always in states of distress. We were able to care for these animals and help locate owners." MCAR also became a distribution center for pet food, dog houses, cat litter, and other pets' needs. She added, "Our services have included assistance from area veterinarians, and since the storm we have been able to help injured animals with such things as toxicity concerns and lacerations."

Mica is an artist-run gallery of fine art and contemporary craft located at 37 N. Mitchell Avenue in Bakersville, NC. The gallery is open Fridays and Saturdays during January, February, and March and every day, April 1-December 31 (closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, and New Year’s Eve). Hours on Mondays-Saturdays are from 11:00am to 5:00pm and Sundays from noon-5:00pm.
