WNCW's Music Mix with Roland Dierauf

Weekdays 3pm to 6pm

Roland Dierauf wanders everyday through the cultural landscape that informs contemporary music.  Starting with the roots of early blues and country, he says hello to their many quirky offspring -- bluegrass, rock, alt country, jazz, funk, international rhythms, and all the endless hybrids.  It's music as big and varied and delightful as the people who make it.  Be a part of it, weekday afternoons on WNCW.

Ways to Connect

Live Wednesday, March 23rd at 5pm: ANDY FERRELL

Mar 18, 2016

A native of Boone and currently residing in Asheville, Andy Ferrell is an exciting new local discovery for us. He's adopted the Doc Watson/Merlefest term "Traditional Plus" to describe his style, and his new album "At Home and in Nashville" is appropriately titled, as he pays homage to favorite artists of his (and ours) from both WNC and Music City.

Live Friday, March 4th at 4pm: ANGELA PERLEY

Feb 26, 2016

This new name out of Columbus, Ohio has a new album Homemade Vision with a pretty full sound, encompassing roots-rock Americana with a psychedelic pop touch.  Angela Perley and her band The Howlin' Moons play Asheville on Friday night at Jack of the Wood.

This four-piece Nashville/Paducah band blends blues, rock, punk, country, and a whole lot of energy to make their potent brew of Southern Gothic. Try to imagine someone embodying Jerry Lee Lewis, Iggy Pop, and David Byrne all in one, and you get frontman JD Wilkes (also of the Dirt Daubers). They visit Studio B for the first time Wednesday afternoon before heading to their show in Asheville that night, and Charlotte on Thursday.

Forty years ago, Bob Dylan’s Blood On The Tracks was the number one album in America. Tuesday March 3rd, we celebrate this milestone by airing the two hour special, Right On Target, So Direct: Bob Dylan’s “Blood On The Tracks”, a radio documentary about the album and era.

We also welcome Blood On The Tracks drummer Bill Berg as guest DJ with host Roland Dierauf to get it all started. It will be a unique musical trip back in time from 5-8 pm Tuesday for a Bob Dylan celebration to remember!
