"The Encampments" Screening - 5/30
Join us for a screening of The Encampments, organized in collaboration with our friends at Asheville Jewish Voice for Peace! This 80-minute documentary offers a ground-level view of the 2024 US campus uprising against the war on Gaza.
As a fundraiser for the Gaza Soup Kitchen, attendees are asked to contribute based on their ability (suggested donation $10-20, no one turned away).
About the Film
Executive Produced by Grammy Award-winning artist Macklemore, The Encampments provides an unprecedented look at one of the most significant student movements in modern history, capturing the passion, resilience, and challenges faced by students who risked everything to demand justice and examining why universities responded with mass arrests and force rather than engagement and dialogue. It sheds light on the institutions’ efforts to suppress student activism. In doing so, it offers a deeper understanding of both the power and the costs of grassroots movements.
Featuring detained activist Mahmoud Khalil, alongside professors, whistleblowers, and organizers, the film captures the deeper stakes of a historic moment that continues to reverberate across the globe.
