That's My JAM Benefit Concert - 1/29
Join us for a night of music to support the Transylvania chapter of Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM). The JAM program envisions a world in which all children have the opportunity to experience community through the joy of participating in traditional mountain music together. Their mission is to provide communities with the tools and support they need to teach children to play and dance to traditional old time and bluegrass music. They believe that children who are actively engaged in traditional mountain music are more connected and better prepared to strengthen their communities for future generations.
Twilight Grove will start the night off around 6:00, followed by the Pisgah Playboys and then Free State of Mind.
Twilight Grove is a band of siblings, friends and students from the Junior Appalachian Musicians (JAM) Program of Transylvania County. Evie plays mandolin and fiddle, Anna Bree plays Upright Bass, Guitar and Mandolin, Skyler plays guitar, Henry plays Fiddle, and Sam plays guitar. Together they play and sing an energetic mix of bluegrass standards and old time fiddle tunes.
The Pisgah Plow Boys are a group of musicians that are seasoned harder than shagbark hickory. Whittling away at the boundaries between western swing, blue moon country and mountain music and always keeping the leather boots thumping on worn wooden floors. Fresh off of retirement and hotter than a four balled tomcat, Jerry Sapp, fearlessly leads this four piece into parts unknown… yet strangely familiar. Joined by Adam Masters on the fiddle, John Trufant on Guitar and Vocals and JT Linville on the upright bass.
Free State of Mind – “Saturating in the fats of southern and classic rock vinyls, Barrett Davis, Eric Henninger and Jt Linville abide. Having bathed in the musk of sweaty shirts and holy jeans, these three renegades have drawn first blood with their new title, Free State of Mind.”
Barrett Davis leads this outfit with his songwriting and passion for roots music. Davis is currently branching out from his previous folk record, The Ballad of Aesop Fin, featuring artist Woody Platt.
Gratefully so, Davis has recently received the opportunity to lend his original song “Toe The Line” towards Woody’s breakout solo record, “Far Away With You.”
Davis continues to carry his weight and hopes to make a difference in the world through music, by bringing joy to people’s hearts, and sparking fond memories of days gone past.
