Wren Greyson shares their new novella A Summer of Static alongside Shalise Verrie, who will be presenting her poetry collection, The Fat Covering My Elbow. This launch event will include a short talk from the authors on self-publishing, a couple of short readings, and time for an audience Q&A.

Wren Greyson is a writer from North Carolina currently studying at UNC Asheville. They studied abroad in Coleraine at the University of Ulster, where the first draft of Caramel and Water Stains was written.

A Summer of Static is a sci-fi novella that takes place in NC in the year 2100. The book follows Purcell being woken up out of a simulation against their will and learning that they’re not a human being like they thought—they’re actually a robot. They spend the summer deciding if they’re going to fight to be recognized as a sentient person or go back into a simulation to escape the real world.

Shalise Verrie, the third oldest of eight siblings, has quite a story to tell. Moving around from a young age, she was able to turn her strongest emotions into poetry. Shalise began writing in the fourth grade and hasn’t stopped since.

A heartfelt exploration of lust, love, and longing, The Fat Covering My Elbow is a collection of poetry that will take you on a dreamy journey through adoration, infatuation, and the beauty of vulnerability. It’s a letter to honest love, loss, and the deep cravings that come with them.
