At 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 24, Music at St. Alban’s (M@SA) will launch its 2021-22 season with a live concert featuring the Noel Freidline Jazz Quartet—a live concert with a live streaming option. The program is entitled “Swinging Sophistication: Tribute to the Modern Jazz Quartet,” a well-known combo famous in its heyday (1950s-70s) for their complex, iconic compositions and arrangements and for their elegant presentation that retained a strong blues feel. Freidline has transcribed a full program of the group’s arrangements, much of which has never been published. Thus, hearing Freidline’s group, which for this program will include the well-known vibraphonist Jon Metzger, will be much like seeing Lazarus rise from the dead. For people wary of joining a large gathering, M@SA will stream this concert live.
