What does mutual aid mean in the context of liberation and how does mutual aid get co-opted and repressed?

The Elements of Mutual Aid docuseries is composed of four chapters, each themed by a different natural element. Join us on May Day for the release of the first chapter: Fire!

In this introductory chapter, we'll meet organizers who help us define what mutual aid is, where it comes from, and why we must protect it. We see mutual aid as a light that we carry inside ourselves and which we tend in each other. It's an element of our humanity that has long traditions in Black and Indigenous cultures. This fire is threatened by systems of dominance, which seek to extinguish it and manufacture dependence in its place. We must protect it from being snuffed out and stolen.
