Click on title for full story - One of WNCW's favorite musicians dropped by Studio B this week and "turned our listeners on" to some super new/old tunes. Tim O'Brien, along with partner Jan Fabricius, shared harmony and songs from the latest O'Brien offering titled Where The River Meets The Road. It's the 16th solo album for the multitalented, Grammy Award winning artist and fans will not be disappointed. O'Brien is a native of Wheeling, West Virginia. The album features songs that are connected to his home town, his family and the music that was born in the Mountain State. Tim O'Brien covers songs written by Larry Groce of Mountain Stage, Billy Edd Wheeler, Bill Withers, Hazel Dickens and more. He also created two original songs for Where The River Meets The Road. The title track tells a story about his great-grandfather immigrating from Ireland to America and settling down in "Wheeling Town." The second piece written by O'Brien is a beautifully sad, transcendent song about one of his sisters. It will bring tears to your eyes. WNCW's Roland Dierauf believes O'Brien's latest effort is outstanding. "I think it stands up to some of the best records he's ever made," said Dierauf. "He's kept his attachment to traditional Appalachian music but there's also country tunes and an updated classic soul song (Grandma's Hands) that's performed in a way that only Tim could do." There's a stellar lineup of musicians performing on the album including Bryan Sutton, Mollie O'Brien, Chris Stapleton, Kathy Mattea, Jan Fabricius, Noam Pikelny, Stuart Duncan and Chris Scruggs.
