Monday Night the 26th at 8pm: LUCINDA WILLIAMS - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road

If we were forced to choose one album that best encompasses the general sound and caliber that we strive for in our weekday programming here at WNCW -- well, that's an impossible task -- but if we had to, it likely would be this 1998 classic from Lucinda. She had taken her time following Sweet Old World from six years earlier, and her meticulousness/perfectionism paid off in spades with this 5-star release that defines the roots-rock style of the late '90's. Seventeen years later, it maintains its clear and contemporary sound. The subject matter here: unresolved love and human passion, conveyed through the imagery of the cities and small towns of the Deep South, remains timeless. The talent pool involved here reads like a who's who of WNCW favorites: Steve Earle, Emmylou Harris, Jim Lauderdale, Buddy Miller, Gurf Morlix, Bo Ramsey, Charlie Sexton, Greg Leisz, Ray Kennedy, and Rick Rubin. It was our #1 Album of 1998, and we'll spin it in honor of Lucinda's birthday today.
