Monday Night the 19th at 8pm: SNOOKS EAGLIN - Teasin' You

Mardi Gras is getting closer: February 17th. And this Wednesday the 21st is the birthday of what his hometown New Orleans called "The Human Jukebox", so we'll celebrate this Monday night with Snooks Eaglin's R&B album Teasin' You. His earlier recordings, going back to 1958, were formidable ones showcasing his folk-blues side. But perhaps deep down, he wanted to play in a soul/R&B setting with a plugged in band like this one, which had George Porter, Jr. on bass and Herman Ernest III on drums. He has often been compared to another blind great, Ray Charles, but one New Orleans contemporary referred to him as the Professor Longhair of the guitar, and his licks definitely stand the test of time as some of the best the Crescent City has produced. This 1992 album shows how he earned his nickname, with this impressive variety of composers -- Fess (his "Red Beans" is a perfect closer here), Earl King, and Lloyd Price. Other highlights include Larry Williams' "Dizzy Miss Lizzy".
