Since Get Away from Me, Nellie’s debut record, she has released a bunch of well-received albums with as many different sounds, ranging from pop to jazz to rock & folk, always defying categorization.
Her music has been used on radio, TV, and in the movies, and she has appeared on many shows, from Letterman to A Prairie Home Companion, as well as writing & performing acclaimed bios of Barbara Graham, Rachel Carson, Billy Tipton, and Joan Rivers.
A nominee for The Ovation award for Ethan Coen’s A Play is a Poem, Nellie won a Theatre World award for her work on Broadway in The Threepenny Opera, & Drama Desk award for off-Broadway’s Old Hats.
She has written and activated for humans, animals, and the environment since childhood, and continues to push for peace & justice for all.
Commander Voodoo is an R&B/funk trio fronted by Darrell Commander, a keyboardist/singer/songwriter with more than 25 years of experience and credits that include performing and recording with multiple Grammy winners. They perform songs by New Orleans and Southern soul artists such as Jon Cleary, The Meters, Dr. John, JJ Grey & Mofro, and The Neville Brothers, as well as original songs and arrangements inspired by those artists.

The Southern Highland Craft Guild invites visitors to experience daily craft demonstrations at the Folk Art Centerfrom March through December. Every day from 10am-4pm, two artists of differing media will explain anddemonstrate their craft with informative materials displayed at their booth. These free educational events are open to the public.

In the last year, Scott has been sketching and painting nearly every day for fun and relaxation in the evening. This has created a new way of sharing and also selling his creations.Scott develops rough sketches on illustration board using acrylic paint and highlighting the artwork with pen and ink. Inspiration comes from the study of abstract artists, especially Calder, Miro, Picasso and Mondrian and the love of Mid Century Modern architectural style!Scott is a Graduate of Kendall College of Art & Design, professional furniture designer, Morganton, Nc.There are showings and sales at The Burke Arts Council and Vintage Blue in Hickory. The attached are a few images of Scott's work. All are original, framed and matted.

Join Conserving Carolina to learn about the bat, the only flying mammal! Mark Ray of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission will discuss some of the bat species found in western North Carolina, where they live, and why they are beneficial to have around. He will also share the most recent research on White Nose Syndrome and the NCWRC’s bat conservation efforts.
