Founded in 2007, Balsam Range consists of five friends with unique experiences and backgrounds that blend together effortlessly to form their distinctive sound. Since bursting onto the scene, Balsam Range has made a definite mark in the Bluegrass and Acoustic music world. With a history rich in southern gospel, bluegrass and jazz, there is a striking degree of professionalism here which blends with the down-home comfort that Balsam Range exudes on the stage. With awards such as the 2011 IBMA Song of the Year for “Trains I Missed” and 2013 IBMA Album of the Year for Papertown, and nominations two years in a row for both IBMA Emerging Artist of the Year and IBMA Album of the Year, the group has definitely made its place in the Bluegrass/Southern Gospel community. It has established a reputation that is reminiscent of the likes of Doyle Lawson, Tony Rice and the Isaacs, all of which have also worked closely with Balsam Range members. Group members have also individually collaborated with artists such as Ricky Skaggs, Doc Watson and Vince Gill—to name only a few. And now in WNCW’s Goin’ Across the Mountain Series, this performance will be one you won’t want to miss!
