Phil Lomac and Shake the Dust live at the Roadmaster Stage in Black Mountain, NC - 9/28
Phil Lomac brings his full band Shake the Dust to Black Mountain, NC for a rare live appearance in the WNC area since moving from Asheville 15+ years ago.
Lomac has been either performing solo or playing in North Carolina bands since 1993. His three solo records have garnered critical acclaim for their mix of alt-rock and roots music with his most recent solo release, 2017’s Northern Cities, Southern Stars, playing like a post-punk update of Bare Trees-era Fleetwood Mac. One of his groups was a top 10 DIY pick from Performing Songwriter in 2003. But for marketing purposes, Lomac’s pensive, hand-crafted feel is hard to pin down. Instead of focusing his sound into a specific genre, Lomac and the band draw on music he likes and artists he respects — ’80s new wave, the alt-country rock of Wilco and the ’70s Laurel Canyon sound exemplified by singer-songwriters like Neil Young and Jackson Brown.
Lomac has been praised for his “persuasive melodies, precise instrumentation and coherent rhythms” in The Huffington Post, while For Folk’s Sake described his album Northern Cities Southern Stars as “a sonic gut-punch of sheer alternative rock, indie pop, and rootsy folk goodness all wrapped into one.”
Unlike the one-man-band approach in his solo work Lomac recruited a number of Charlotte, NC area musicians to collaborate on his most recent project / EP Shake the Dust which led to the formation of the music group bearing the same name and a growing list of live dates across the region.
Lomac and company returns to the Roadmaster Stage for a second time - the first time was several years back at the original location nestled in a quiet residential neighborhood on Laurel Circle Drive in Black Mountain where owner David Boughner first welcomed regional and national acts to come perform for the local community on an intimate stage in his backyard - a vision that grew to see stellar performers like the Songs from the Road band and two-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter Jim Lauderdale performing there.
Come out for a great night of original, live music.
