Harwood Cole Literary Lecture Featuring Vanessa Hua
Vanessa Hua is an award-winning author and columnist for the San Francisco Chronicle. Her short story collection, Deceit and Other Possibilities (2016), received an Asian/Pacific American Award in Literature, was a finalist for a California Book Award, and O, The Oprah Magazine called it a “searing debut.” She is also the author of A River of Stars (2018), Forbidden City (2022), her forthcoming novel Coyoteland (2026) and memoir Uprooted: A Chinese American Story of Survival and Resistance (Tin House Books).
For two decades, Hua has been writing about Asia and the diaspora, filing stories from China, Burma, Panama, South Korea, and Ecuador. In her lecture, she will read excerpts from her works and discuss her life as a writer. This event, hosted by Warren Wilson College, is free and open to the public.
