Charlotte Iris Society Annual Show - April 29
Charlotte Iris Society Annual Show - April 29
The Charlotte Iris Society(CIS) hosts its annual iris show from 1-4 p.m. on April 29 at Providence United Methodist Church in Charlotte. Admission to the show is free.
To hear of iris flowers may conjure images of purple ruffled blooms on tall green stalks, but members of the Charlotte Iris Society know iris to be a goddess in ancient Greek mythology, her name meaning rainbow. Today there are more than 280 different iris species with thousands of varieties producing flowers ranging from bright yellow with fuzzy orange beards to deep blues with wide cascading petals.
One need not know the intimate details of iris to appreciate their beauty at the Charlotte Iris Society’s upcoming annual iris show on April 29.
Youth exhibitors ( growers under age 19) and novice growers are encouraged to attend and enter the show. Unnamed stalks (except seedlings) or labeled irises grown by another person are not eligible for AIS ribbons and awards, but may be displayed on the table marked "FOR DISPLAY ONLY.”
Official entries (except for seedlings) must have been grown and be entered in person by the exhibitor whose name appears on the entry card.
All Entries must be brought to Providence United Methodist church located at 2810 Providence Road in Charlotte from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. the morning of the show, Saturday, April 29, 2023. Official show rules are available by contacting society member and show chairperson Greg Schaffer at chaffergs7@gmail.com.
