It’s Wordstage, a celebration of the fascinating world of storytelling featuring the very best storytellers, ballad singers and spoken word artist.

Sheila Kay Adams is a seventh-generation ballad singer, storyteller, and claw-hammer banjo player from the Sodom Laurel community of Madison County, North Carolina with family ties to the Wallin’ and Chandler families, both branches of which are renowned for their Appalachian musical heritage. The Farmer's Curst Wife is a Child ballad number 278, also known as ‘The Devil and the Farmer’s Wife’; an Irish ballad about shrewish wife that terrifies the devil and his family. It has been recorded by Pete Seeger ,  Jean Ritchie , Tim O’Brien and Patrick Sky. From the CD, What Ever Happened to John Parrish’s Boy.

Originally aired on 1/30/21 and 1/31/21

John started as a volunteer radio announcer in the spring of 1995, spinning vinyl and a brand new media, the Compact-Disc. He recalls, “In those days we had, reel-to-reel recorded programs, and guests crowding around the one mic to perform live - all bundled up into a 2 hour live old-time radio show." Now This Old Porch is three hours of top notch programming with up-to-date technology.
