If there is a poet laureate for Iowa, or perhaps the Midwest in general, it should be Greg Brown. On this album from '94, Brown's unique spin of poetry and storytelling begins with a flashback to riding in his parents' "Brand New '64 Dodge", and the loss of faith and innocence America felt that year. From there he describes life in a typical American "Boomtown", offers a unique comparison between "Jesus and Elvis", and reflects on young love, lost friends, and modern-day America in the title track. Celebrate Greg Brown's July 2nd birthday with us and this gem that has held up quite well these past 20 years, Monday night.
