Melissa grew up in Tucson, Arizona, where she fell in love with the ecology and geology of the Sonoran desert. She has a B.S. in Environmental Science from the University of Arizona and an M.FA. in Creative Writing and Environment from Iowa State University. Her first book, Mythical River, forthcoming from the University of Iowa Press, is about water issues in the Southwest. She has worked as a science communicator for NASA’s Phoenix Mars Scout Mission, the Water Resources Research Center, and the Leopold Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Melissa relocated to Flagstaff in 2015 to join KNAU’s team. She enjoys hiking, fishing and reading fantasy novels.

Kate Payne is an Iowa City-based reporter for Iowa Public Radio. Before she came to the Hawkeye State she was a reporter and fill-in host for WFSU, the NPR member station in Tallahassee, Florida. Kate has won awards for her political and feature reporting and her sound editing.

Meribah Knight is a journalist who recently relocated to Nashville from Chicago, where she covered business, the economy, housing, crime and transportation.

Steve Bohn was born in Portland, Oregon. He grew up working “all sorts of laborer jobs” which eventually led him to working for the US Forestry Service planting trees in the Cascade Mountains – the famous Pacific Northwest mountain range that stretches from British Columbia through Washington, Oregon and California. Mount Rainier is part of the expansive system.

Nate grew up in the hills of West Virginia with his Dad’s box of classic rock and his Mom’s musicals as influences, grew his tastes in the big city of Nashville, then warmed to the sounds of the banjo and beyond on the diverse airwaves of WNCW. He’ll listen to anything at least once. When he’s not busy hunting down new sounds, he’s probably burying his face in a book, catcalling stray cats, or wandering through the woods pretending not to be lost.
