Jazz pianist, composer, and band leader, Duke Ellington was born on April 29, 1899. Credited
as one of the originators of big band jazz, Duke started his band in 1924 and the band toured
for over 5 decades.
A global celebration is taking place across the globe during April to celebrate the 125th
birthday of this American treasure and jazz icon. The Asheville Jazz Orchestra is pleased to
take part in this celebration. They will present a big band tribute to this legendary jazz artist at
the DFR Lounge in Brevard on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Audiences will be treated to some of
Duke’s most famous tunes including Caravan, Don’t Get Around Much Anymore, Take the A-
