May 10, 2019
Ken Voltz

We fell in love with Alexa Rose's blend of folk and Americana mountain roots music in 2017 when her Low and Lonesome album came out. The Asheville musician won the "General" category in last month's MerleFest Chris Austin Songwriting Contest for her new song "Medicine For Living", and she promises to include it in her live session with us on Wednesday. She plays Sunday the 19th in Asheville, and then May 30th in Charlotte.

Live Wednesday, November 28th at 1:30: Elise Davis

Nashville singer/songwriter Elise Davis released a compelling album this year called "Cactus." She'll play songs from it in a solo session with Joe Greene interviewing, before playing Asheville Wednesday night and Charlotte on Thursday.

Martha Spencer will appear live on “This Old Porch” at 4pm November 18th, in support of her new self titled CD. The delightfully charming and talented daughter of musicians Thornton and Emily Spencer, Martha grew up performing and recording with Southwest Virginia’s  Whitetop Mountain Band. Originally formed in the ‘40s by uncle and legendary fiddler Albert Hash, Thornton Spencer’s fiddle playing and Emily Spencer’s sweet vocals and banjo artistry carried the tradition forward for their children.

Jeff Jeffares

It's hard to think of someone more qualified to spin an hour of great tunes than Randall. His songs have been covered by Bonnie Raitt, Delbert McClinton, & Hot Tuna among others, he's played for many years with Steve Winwood, Gregg Allman, Widespread Panic, & Sea Level...and of course we love his own records, too! He and his band play Ambrose West in West Asheville Friday night.

Spencer Huffman

Statesville, NC singer-songwriter Matt Walsh's music has one of those genre-blending sounds that combines so many different styles, we just refer to it as "good music." He and his band have a new album "The Midnight Strain" that officially releases this Saturday - Shows this week include performances in Salisbury, NC Friday, Charlotte, NC - AND, Lexington, NC on Saturday. They'll pile into Studio B for our first live session there since our successful Fall Fund Drive.

We'll feature Dawn Landes in a solo acoustic session spotlighting tunes from her new album “Meet Me At The River.” Also, we'll hear music from Darling West, the Americana band from Norway with a great new album, plus we'll remember the late Tony Joe White by listening to him in Studio B back in 2014. Join Host Kim Clark for Studio B Rewind every Sunday at 7pm.

We recently aired an interview Martin Anderson did with Richard Thompson - RT as he is known to his many fans, remains one of WNCW's most revered songwriters and guitarists. We've created a podcast so you can listen to it again or check it out if you missed it. His new music will be featured on Peak of the Week, Thursday night, at 9pm with Renee Denton.

"Penetrative & excitingly melodic ... Intimate literate lyrics & velvet vocals," says Rolling Stone about Clarence, and we agree. This prolific singer/songwriter originally from Ohio consistently delivers quality albums, and this year's Passionate Kind is no exception. He plays The Grey Eagle in Asheville Tuesday night.
