Theirs is a story that brings to mind iconic husband and wife teams like Johnny and June, and they can boast an ever growing legion of fans and critical acclaim. The past year or so has proved to be one of their most successful in terms of their music, while it has also been a span with times of great difficulty -- both with their art and their relationship.

Welcome to episode 45 of WNCW’s new music podcast, On The Way Up, where you can hear some of the best new tunes now, on our airwaves, as well as get a bit of a recap of music doing well here in the first half of 2019," said Producer Joe Kendrick. "You'll hear the latest from artists like Robert Randolph & The Family Band, Eilen Jewell and Tyler Childers, and we'll bring you up to speed on the new albums we played the most this year.

We're excited to share our latest On The Way Up Podcast with you this week! It's hosted by Lauren Wasmund, our WNCW summer intern. She'll take us on a true Americana musical journey with songs from artists like the Fruit Bats from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, to the funkalicious sounds of Kev "Shinyribs" Russell from Austin Texas, followed by a DJ For The Day Segment featuring Ashevillian Julian Pinelli, a local North Carolina master fiddler and free style violinist.

WNCW's new music podcast has lots of great new music featured here, with regional favorites from western NC like Tyler Ramsey and Rising Appalachia, and our segue of the show pairing songs written decades ago which have been covered many times, one of which is a brand new version from Charlie Hunter and Lucy Woodward.  Many of the songs on this podcast are also available on one of our Spotify playlists, titled “WNCW New Music.”
