Uncle Walt's Band, considered a cornerstone trio of today's Americana music genre, got its start in Spartanburg, SC with Walter Hyatt, Champ Hood, & David Ball. Ball and his band, which includes Warren Hood (The Waybacks) and Marshall Hood (The Belleville Outfit), are touring in celebration of the anniversary of the Uncle Walt's Band's 1974 debut, with shows Thursday and Friday nights in Spartanburg.

Live Monday, March 25th at 10:15am - Rodney Dillard

Mar 22, 2019

He was a musician and actor on the beloved Andy Griffith Show, he's been inducted into the International Bluegrass Music Association Hall of Fame, and he's revered as a cornerstone of both country rock and progressive bluegrass. Rodney Dillard still keeps quite a busy schedule, which includes a show with his band at The Grey Eagle on Monday night. Rodney visits with Martin on Monday morning following the Ten O'Clock Doc spotlight on Doc Watson.

Live Friday, March 22nd between 2 & 3pm: Bobby Long

Mar 16, 2019

Singer/songwriter Bobby Long is originally from near Manchester, England, and now calls New York City home. His latest album "Sultans" is a rather psychedelic, Beatle-esque collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Jack Dawson, and we'll get to know Bobby and the making of this new venture of his when he visits us in Studio B before his show Friday evening at New Belgium Brewing in Asheville, NC - not to be confused with the New Belgium in Colorado, where he'll play on April 5th!

Live Thursday, March 21st between 3 & 4pm: Tony Eltora

Mar 16, 2019

Tony helped put Taylorsville, NC on the musical map for us a couple years ago with his nice collection of blues, folk and rock, "Between Love & Tragedy." He's got a new one coming out, and a release show on Saturday in Morganton. Aside from his music, we like that Tony helped found the Hickory Music Factory in 2012, a non profit organization in Hickory, NC with the mission to build futures through music by teaching, performance and community outreach.

He's known as the guitarist for Freakwater by many, the man behind Drunken Prayer by others, and, well, Morgan Geer everywhere else. Especially Asheville and Portland, where he splits his time living. Perhaps you know him from The Unholy Trio, or touring with The Handsome Family. Whoever he is, we'll get to know him in Studio B this Wednesday! Drunken Prayer plays Saturday at the Mothlight in West Asheville.

We'll hear the ethereal songs and extraordinary harmonies of the Shook Twins, who were here in support of their new album “Some Good Lives,” said SBR Host Kim Clark. "Then we'll come down to earth with the blues rock of Frank Bang & the Secret Stash with good friend and musician Dan Johnston." We're always havin' a good time in Studio B at WNCW and we like to relive/revive/rewind and share those musical moments with you every Sunday evening at 7pm on Studio B Rewind.

Studio B Rewind Host Kim Clark says we'll be listening to former New York Dolls guitarist Aaron Lee Tasjan, and his band, this Sunday. The group's latest album, Karma For Cheap, was one of our favorites from 2018 and came in at #46 in our Top 100. Our host will also share music from a session recorded last summer - a stellar performance and interview with Upstate South Carolina legends David Ball & That Carolina Sound... keeping the music of Uncle Walt's Band alive.

Vickie Burick

One of Brevard's favorite singer/songwriters returns to WNCW, this time with an Army of Love! Laura Blackley, Jane Kramer, Alexa Rose, Mike Guggino, & Mike Ashworth will join him for the session, in advance of their concert at the Grey Eagle in Asheville on Sunday the 9th, with numerous others regional favorites of ours. WNCW is extremely proud to be a Media Sponsor of this event. Check out this video about it.

This Sunday evening we have a stellar Studio B Rewind lineup scheduled for your listening pleasure. Host Kim Clark says WNCW will feature The Kruger Brothers in a session from this past September, when they were here to preview their “Carolina In The Fall” festival. We'll feature Amanda Shires and her band performing their live session in our studio, also in September, playing songs from the band's new album TO THE SUNSET.  Studio B LIVE Sessions are produced by WNCW Sound Engineer Sean Rubin.

Here are a few shots from our time with Aaron Lee Tasjan and his band members. They dropped by Studio B November 13th and Music Mix Host Joe Greene talked to the "Americana Troubadour" about the band's 2018 release KARMA FOR CHEAP. We'll have that session airing again soon on a Studio B Rewind show with Kim Clark. We're getting ready to post our Annual Top 100 Contest next week... could this be one of your top albums played on WNCW in 2018?

Two of our favorite contemporary Americana stringbands, in a double-bill! Join Joe Kendrick as we bring you live interview sessions from both, amongst their soundchecks for their Thursday night show in Shelby, NC. We expect to go live with The Steel Wheels around 3:30pm, and Chatham County Line a bit past 5:00 pm.

You might know one of our favorite contemporary cosmic Americana troubadours... but do you know one of our favorite current power-pop rockers? They are one in the same, as Aaron's latest release "Karma For Cheap" is more reminiscent of his time with the New York Dolls. He joins us in Studio B before playing Ambrose West in West Asheville Tuesday night.
