goin' across the mountain

Two bands playing bluegrass music
By Joe Kendrick

We've got two sessions recorded at the International Bluegrass Music Association's annual festival in Raleigh, NC for "Goin' Across the Mountain." At Noon Host Joe Greene will share music featuring Joe Mullins & The Radio Ramblers; they won the Entertainer Of The Year award at this year’s IBMA as well as Collaborative Recording Of The Year for “The Guitar Song” with Del McCoury. Then, at 5pm, we bring you our Fireside Collective session. Jesse laquinto, Carson White, Tommy Maher, Joe Cicero, and Alex Genova comprise one of Western NC's most exciting young string bands.

Studio B Rewind Host and Producer Kim Clark says we'll hear session clips from two of our absolute favorite performers, Malcolm Holcombe and Greg Brown, who played music together in our studio back in August 2019. "Not only are they great singer/songwriters, they're great guys, too," said Clark.

We'll have LIVE music coming your way Saturday afternoon when Goin' Across The Mountain Host Todd Baldwin welcomes Carolina Divide to WNCW. The band members hail from both North Carolina and South Carolina, and as they say - "hence the name." They're known for their love of traditional, gospel and bluegrass tunes. We're excited to share a live session featuring these multitalented, local artists whose sound is unmistakenly deeply rooted in the south and in Appalachian music.

We've got live music on Saturday during "Goin' Across the Mountain" with Jim & Lynna, an Indiana couple who are in the area for a couple of Upstate SC shows: Hillbilly Days in Mountain Rest on the 4th, and Frank's Coffee & Music in Inman on the 6th. Host Joe Greene will welcome the Woolseys to WNCW Saturday afternoon. Enjoy!

"This week on Studio B Rewind, we'll remember former Studio B Engineer and longtime WNCW Bluegrass and Gospel Music Host Dennis Jones by listening to him not only engineer sound, but also conduct interviews with some of the bluegrass legends that have graced our studio including Tut Taylor, Doyle Lawson, Charlie Waller, and the Lonesome River Band," said Host Kim Clark. It's a special Studio B coming your way at 7pm Sunday - a show created to honor Walter  "Dennis"  Jones who passed away Friday, June 14th in Shelby, North Carolina. Rest in peace Dennis Jones.
