Kathy Mattea Live Friday, February 22nd around 4:30pm

Feb 18, 2019

As the saying (sort of) goes, you can take the singer out of West Virginia.... but Nashville's CMA-award winning Kathy Mattea has always treasured her Appalachian mountain roots, and they are stronger than ever on her most recent recordings, including last year's Pretty Bird. We are pleased to welcome her back to the WNCW airwaves with a live interview/session from The Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby on Friday afternoon, before her concert that evening.

SBR Host Kim Clark says we'll take a trip back in time and listen to Chatham County Line during this week's show. The band's session was recorded in November of 2018 at the Don Gibson Theater in Shelby, NC. The Raleigh, NC based group played songs from its traditional/roots music catalog and previewed an upcoming all-covers album.

Calling the Herd! One of our favorite bands returns to the WNCW airwaves, this time from the stage of the Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby, NC. We'll air an interview between Joe Kendrick and Jeb, Tara & the gang in Donna the Buffalo, recorded during their soundcheck before their Saturday December 1st show there. They've got a great new album, so let's Dance in the Street!

Two of our favorite contemporary Americana stringbands, in a double-bill! Join Joe Kendrick as we bring you live interview sessions from both, amongst their soundchecks for their Thursday night show in Shelby, NC. We expect to go live with The Steel Wheels around 3:30pm, and Chatham County Line a bit past 5:00 pm.

With a string of wonderful records going back to his 1978 debut, and treasured associations with the likes of Emmylou Harris, Rosanne Cash, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt, and Guy Clark, "The Houston Kid" is at the top of the list of Americana greats, and songwriters in general. Tune in as Joe Kendrick asks Rodney to share stories of Music City's heyday, and update us on his new collection of acoustic favorites and upcoming Christmas album. We'll be at the Don Gibson Theatre in Shelby during his soundcheck!

What an honor to have these two banjo greats return to WNCW. Join us as we welcome Bela and Abigail at the start of Goin' Across the Mountain, on their way to Shelby for a show Saturday evening at the Don Gibson Theatre. Béla's current Grammy count is 15 Grammys won, and 30 nominations. He has been nominated in more different musical categories than anyone in Grammy history.
