Wicked Weed

Mountain Heart began as an inventive, original bluegrass band back in 1998, and that inventiveness has only grown over the years. The group's 2018 release "Soul Searching" adds New Orleans jazz, soul, and more to its bluegrass roots. On Wednesday morning, November 7th, we'll share the latest "Wicked Weed Barrel-House Session" from Wicked Weed's Funkatorium. It was recorded by our Sound Engineer Sean Rubin last Friday, and the event was hosted by Martin Anderson. Stay with us all day and check out this special session at 10am.

Join us at 7pm Sunday for Studio B Rewind - Courtney Marie Andrews's latest album “May Your Kindness Remain” got rave reviews from multiple music media sources after it was released earlier this year. She and her band played some songs from it for us live from the Mothlight in Asheville, NC this past March. We loved it so much, we featured a song from the session, on our new Crowd Around The Mic Volume 22.

Tune to 88.7fm or stream us at wncw.org and check out Seth Kaufmann's band Floating Action. We'll be broadcasting the "Wicked Wednesday" session recorded at the Wicked Weed Funkatorium  last Thursday in Asheville, NC. Program Director Joe Kendrick will talk with Kaufmann, between songs, about the band's new release "Heartache Essentials." It's Floating Action on WNCW, Wednesday, October 10th at 4pm during the Music Mix with Roland Dierauf.

Soul/rock/dance band The Fritz settled in Asheville in 2011, after forming in college in Florida. They have a new EP out Friday, and a show in Asheville Saturday night the 13th, and we're glad to have them serve up a funky, soulful lunch in Studio B  on Wednesday. Check out this new video of theirs here.
