Ram Mandelkorn (The Digs, other Asheville bands) has a great sounding squad that will join him in Studio B  before their album release show at The Mothlight in Asheville Friday the 31st. Get ready for an Earthquake of cool grooves!

A case that involved mistrust, fraud, expenditures, luxury benefits, and more by members of Buncombe County, NC that included top leaders, is reviewed up until the recent day of jail sentencing in U.S. District Court.  A series of interviews, going back over two years, with Asheville Citizen-Times Reporter- Jennifer Bowman provides all the scandalous details that involved former County Manager Wanda Greene, Assistant County Manager John Creighton, and others.   The interview first aired on September 4, 2019.

One of the most revered storyteller/singer/songwriters of the Southern Appalachian Mountains, and one whom we've loved playing and hosting at WNCW since our first years, Michael Reno Harrell returns to Studio B before his Saturday show in Asheville and a number of assorted appearances throughout the South this Fall. Consider this one of our first mini-celebrations of the station's 30th anniversary! Perhaps he'll have some "Southern suggestions" for us....

A troubadour, a singer/songwriter, a folky, and a storyteller: Ellis Paul has embodied all of these well since emerging out of the fertile Boston music scene in the early 1990's. He now calls Charlottesville, VA home, and has a new release chronicling the life of a traveling troubadour and more, called "The Storyteller's Suitcase." He plays Isis in West Asheville, NC on Friday, then spends the week at the Swannanoa Gathering for Contemporary Folk Week.

EJ Jones, leader of the Piper Jones Band, will be Tom Fellenbaum's  special guest on "Celtic Winds"  Sunday, July 7, in the 1:00 hour.  Jones, a multi instrumentalist from Asheville, NC, who also constructs pipes, will discuss his love of Scottish music, and his position as Musical Director of the annual Highland Games and Gathering of the Clans at Grandfather Mountain in Linville, NC.

These two Georgia-based singer/songwriter/guitarists are on a "Kickin' & Singin'" tour together, for shows in Asheville Friday and Charlotte Saturday. We can't disagree with what's said about Michelle: "raucous and jubilant - somewhere between Lucinda Williams and Shelby Lynne comes Malone alternating between soulful ballads and rowdy, riffy blasters."- ROLLING STONE

Live Friday, June 7th between 3 & 4pm: Darrell Scott

May 31, 2019

If you gauge your potential interest in an artist based on "one degree of separation", consider the following (in no particular order) for one of our absolute favorites: Guy Clark, Robert Plant, the Dixie Chicks, Tim O'Brien, Malcolm Holcombe, Travis Tritt, Patty Loveless, Bill Frisell, Zac Brown.... Experience the great Darrell Scott if you haven't already! He returns to Studio B before performing Friday in Asheville and Saturday in Charlotte.

After what seems like a bit of a hiatus, Undress follows the Felice Brothers' 2016 album Life In The Dark, and finds the group from the Catskills of NY in a very different place three years later. Between personnel changes, families growing and the political landscape, the result is a tighter, more-paired down release. They're in our area for a show Thursday night in Asheville.

Born in Paris and raised in Fontainebleau, the home of Impressionism and Django Reinhardt, French guitarist Stephane Wrembel absorbed the great Gypsy jazz tradition through deep immersion of both the masters' techniques and the vibrant Gypsy culture. But his longtime love for Pink Floyd and other styles also winds its way into his work, as we'll hear when he returns to WNCW before his show Tuesday night in Asheville. The Stephane Wrembel Band includes long-time collaborators Thor Jensen (guitar), Ari Folman Cohen (bass), and Nick Anderson (drums).
