WNCW's Music Mix with Roland Dierauf

Weekdays 3pm to 6pm

Roland Dierauf wanders everyday through the cultural landscape that informs contemporary music.  Starting with the roots of early blues and country, he says hello to their many quirky offspring -- bluegrass, rock, alt country, jazz, funk, international rhythms, and all the endless hybrids.  It's music as big and varied and delightful as the people who make it.  Be a part of it, weekday afternoons on WNCW.

Two Asheville rock acts celebrate new releases on Saturday at Isis in West Asheville: Black Robin Hero and David Earl. PETER KARP Live Friday, March 10th at 4pm

Mar 3, 2017

From his beginnings in a NYC blues-punk band, to his collaboration with Sue Foley (including a Studio B visit a few years ago), Peter Karp has been a part of the music scene for many years now. Even taking a "break" for 10 years to raise a family and work in the film industry, he kept involved with the likes of Willie Dixon, John Lee Hooker, Michael Brecker, & Richie Havens. He comes through the area with his band on Friday, including Mac Arnold's Restaurant in Greenville.

TIM O'BRIEN Live Wednesday, March 8th at 3pm

Mar 3, 2017
Scott Simontacchi

Whether it's his work with Hot Rize, his sister Mollie O'Brien, his fellow songwriter Darrell Scott, or his countless projects as a producer or sideman, we sure love listening to singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist Tim O'Brien. One of our favorites returns to Studio B Wednesday, before his show at the Grey Eagle in Asheville that night. He's got a brand new release, Where the River Meets the Road.

Feb 13, 2017

Jason DeCristofaro, a faculty member of Warren Wilson College and A-B Tech among other things, has created the WNC Solidarity Concert Series, which will raise funds for various Western NC nonprofits at The Block Off Biltmore in Asheville.  He's assembled a cool fusion of artists that he says will represent all the 30+ musicians involved with the series for this Thursday afternoon: Tim Doyle (guitar), Cameron Austin (bass), Bill Berg (drums), with Jason on vibraphone. The next event benefits the Center for Honey Bee Research, on Feb. 26th.

The Wood Brothers
David Barnum

Due to technical difficulties, we were not able to broadcast live.  However, we recorded the session and will broadcast it Wednesday morning.

Oliver Wood, Chris Wood, and Jano Rix have become one of our favorite bands here at WNCW these past 8 or so years, and it seems many of our listeners agree. Tune in as we visit with them live from the Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte before their show there Tuesday evening. They've got a great new live release out, and just may be working on a new studio release this year, too.

The Asheville area trio of Corey Bullman (formerly of Fifth House), Leigh Glass, and Jacob Bauman have released one of our region's stronger albums of 2016.
