Morning Edition 12/7: FLAT ROCK PLAYHOUSE IS IN DIRE NEED OF FUNDS

Flatrock playhouse at christmas

I am a drama queen...anyone who knows me knows that. But not in the sense that is always bad. I just love theatre and the arts. So, when I heard that Flat Rock Playhouse - the State Theatre of NC - was in need of funds, I just had to share the information with the world. For WNCW, I'm Pam Bunch.

Flat Rock is a staple in Western North Carolina. The things that it does for the Western North Carolina counties can't be underestimated.  Just being able to attend quality theatre and music without having to go to the 'Big City' is a privilege. But the educational part of what the Playhouse does is as important to children and young adults as STEM.

Vince Marini, Producing Artistic Director of Flat Rock, is as passionate not only about keeping the Playhouse going, but he's also passionate about keeping the Playhouse growing. And in this long, drawn-out and deep recession, that's not an easy thing to do.

Marini is also passionate about reminding the folks in Western North Carolina-and beyond-that without Flat Rock Playhouse and its new downtown location, there wouldn't be much to do in Hendersonville and Henderson County.

Tune in Friday morning to hear my conversation with Marini about the future of Western North Carolina's diamand of a draw, Flat Rock Playhouse.
