Alex Nudd

Music Host and Producer

Alex has been a fan of radio since childhood and jumped at the chance to get involved with college radio in the late 90's. He served as marketing director and program director at WAQU before taking a job with Clearchannel Broadcasting around the turn of the century.

After becoming disenchanted with commercial radio, he moved to Asheville in 2006 and soon became acquainted with WNCW as a listener, supporter, and volunteer.

In the meantime, he has operated a small home improvement business in Western North Carolina, where he enjoys life with his wife, Darlene, and Son, James, and has enjoyed public radio all the while.

It wasn't until 2023 that he knocked on the door at WNCW and said, "I would like to get in on this action." Program director, Joe Kendrick noticed that Alex has a face for radio and Alex explained that it was because he had some radio experience in decades past and it is hard to get the radio off once you really get all into it.

After hosting over 100 hours of ARC overnight, Alex signed on as a staff member, and now hosts and produces radio programs for WNCW. You can hear him on WNCW Remixed and ARC Overnight, and as an occasional fill-in host.

The GRAMMY Award-winning 12-member band led by the dynamic wife and husband duo of Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks has released their sixth studio album, with 11 great new tracks. “I feel like this is the most unique record we’ve done,” says Trucks of Future Soul. “It’s my favorite collection of songs that we’ve ever put on a record. From song to song, there’s just not a weak spot. With Future Soul, we wanted to shake things up.”

Following their previous album of covers appropriately titled Songs We Didn’t Write, the trio Organ Fairchild (Joe Bellanti- organ and keyboards, Corey Kertzie- drums and percussion, and Dave Ruch- guitar) worked with Justin Guip (Hot Tuna, Levon Helm), who recorded, mixed, and co-produced this album of originals. “Organ Fairchild sits at the intersection of Booker T & the MG’s and Phish as the trio uses the classic organ trio style as a foundation, before pushing out into the unknown with prog-like changes and fluid strolling grooves throughout BOOM!” (Glide Magazine)

Hen’s Teeth arrives fully formed but sits as a sibling record, of sorts, to 2024’s acclaimed and Grammy-nominated Light Verse. Its seeds were sewn during multiple sessions over the last few years in the foothills of Los Angeles, with studio owner/engineer Dave Way. The record features many familiar names from the Iron & Wine universe - David Garza, Sebastian Steinberg, Tyler Chester, Griffin Goldsmith, Beth Goodfellow, Kyle Crane, and Paul Cartwright – lending their talents to a collec collection of songs that, while complementary in nature, had their own distinct feel. Some early listeners draw comparisons to Van Morrison’s Astral Weeks.

Buoyant, smooth, and disarming, the music of singer-songwriter/producer Boy Golden (a.k.a. Liam Duncan, from Winnipeg) is charmingly undefinable, drawing lines from the Tulsa sound to North Carolina indie, New Jersey DIY to swampy New Orleans folk. From opening riff to swirling final notes, Best of Our Possible Lives ripples like the sun on the lake, an invitation for us to seek our own bliss.

We’ve loved getting to know singer/songwriter/bassist Melissa Carper these last few years, through her solo work and collaborations with various others, including the fun groups the Wonder Women of Country and Sad Daddy. This time, she’s introduced us to Paris, France native Theo Lawrence, who comes from a variety of musical backgrounds but has really dialed in that classic swing and country duet sound with Carper ever since the two met in Austin.

Their great blend of rock, country, and blues as Band of Heathens has attracted a loyal following since then, and this new album is another feather in their cap. The band embarks on an impressive national tour this month, which includes Carolina dates in April. Ed Jurdi will be a Guest DJ here with Martin Anderson on Monday, the 30th, at 11 am!

Blackbirding is a reclamation-driven Black country soul album that roams the Gettysburg battlefield to create songs that dismantle myths and assumptions about what happened there -- and to explore the reasons why, like slavery, the Civil War has never really ended.

The best-dressed band in country music is known for specializing in various subgenres with each amazing album of theirs. This time, they took on ’60s instrumental surf and sounds inspired by Italian composer Ennio Morricone's Western soundtracks. And as expected, they aced it! "We’ve done bluegrass, gospel, and country records," Stuart said.

It's the latest project from Katie Crutchfield (Waxahatchee) and her twin sister Allison Crutchfield (Swearin') and the album features MJ Lenderman and Brad Cook. Each of the four artists play a number of instruments, but the spotlight remains squarely with the two sisters, with each writing and taking lead vocals for half the songs. When they sing in harmony, you’ll notice the kind of magic that close sibling singers are able to create. One of the major topics they cover in their songwriting here is that of addiction, which their family has wrestled with over the years.
