  • Sunday March 10th from 9 to 10pm, we launch our new weekly show, Eclectic Electric. An electronic variety show, where anything and everything electronic goes—from electronica to hip hop, lounge to lo-fi, techno to trip hop, new age, new wave, vaporwave and pop. Join Rachel Hilton and Spencer Jones Sundays for a tour of electronic music throughout the decades to the present. When asked what the impetus for the show was, Rachel Hilton told us "Eclectic is a perfect word to describe the music on WNCW, and one of the many reasons I love this station. As a lover of all music (especially Celtic and Electronic), I realized WNCW didn't have a program exclusively for electronic music. When I mentioned the idea for an electronic variety show to Martin Anderson, he told me that Spencer Jones had a similar idea a while back. During the Celtic Winds fall fundraiser, I got to chat with Spencer about putting our ideas together to create Eclectic Electric."
  • With three Grammy wins, seven CMA Awards, and multiple national fiddle, guitar, and mandolin champion titles, Mark O’Connor’s music and career truly defies categories: bluegrass, jazz, classical, and those sweet styles that segue between them all. Going back several decades, he’s been a member of legendary ensembles the David Grisman Quintet, The Dregs, and Strength In Numbers with Bela Fleck, Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, and Edgar Meyer. Then there are his various duets with the likes of Ricky Skaggs, Yo-Yo Ma, and now his wife Maggie. The two will perform a live session in Studio B, with conversation about all of these wonderful collaborations, the famous O’Connor Method that countless violin students have learned from, and more. They then head to Asheville for a Friday evening concert at the Wortham Center For the Performing Arts.
  • With a style that started out tilting towards Americana but has picked up heavy doses of funk and soul, the Hustle Souls can take their listener to some very dark, and some very bright places. Nuanced and always easy to dance to they bring it every night." (Jason Sandford, Asheville Grit). Fronted by Billy Litz, the 4-piece Asheville band has a new album, and a whole lot of creative music videos! They play the Asheville Music Hall on Saturday the 16th, and Billy has a number of solo gigs (“Kid Billy”) around the region, too.
  • Time for a live “Spoonful of Blues”! A Grammy-nominated musician and songwriter, Jontavious performs original tunes in the style of Delta, Piedmont, Texas, and Gospel Blues. Our “Saturday Night House Party” host Mike Dew caught an impressive set from him in Tryon the last time he was coming through and connected us with him. Willis plays the Grey Eagle in Asheville on Wednesday night. “Jontavious Willis. That’s my Wonderboy, the Wunderkind. He’s a great new voice of the 21st Century in the acoustic blues. I just love the way he plays. He has really just delightful timing and a real voice for the music because he was raised in the tradition and the culture. It’s just wonderful to hear him sing. The way he tunes his guitar is just amazing. There’s not a bluesman alive that could pick his instrument up and play it. You’d have to sit there for a good while to figure those tunings out.” –Taj Mahal
  • Joe Cicero (guitar); Jesse Iaquinto (mandolin); Tommy Maher (resonator guitar) and Carson White (upright bass) are celebrating ten years as a band! And this will be their first time in Studio B with drummer Mike Tillis. We look forward to reconnecting with this fine band of fine guys, blending bluegrass, jamband, and other styles, on Tuesday the 5th just past 4pm. “Depending on where you come from and your experience with folk music, you may think we’re very traditional, or on the other hand, consider us a progressive act,” says Iaquinto. “We appreciate both ends of the spectrum and may lie on a different end on any given night.” They’ve got a show at the Salvage Station in Asheville on Saturday the 16th.
